Fox (Scenario 1)

I stalked through the forest, feeling the cold leaves on my paws. I kept hearing the sound of my mewling, starving kits in my mind. They needed food.

That one thought stayed in my mind, and it caused me to be more reckless than I would have been elsewhere, if I didn't have seven tiny mouths to feed.

I glanced into a bush, and I noticed a plump rabbit sitting there, frozen. I dared not move a muscle. I was back into hunting mode. The only thought that burned in my mind was to not let it see me.

I bunched my muscles like the rabbit was doing, and sprang at the exact same time as it.

As I chased after it, my long bounds quicker than the short, quick hops of the rabbit, I couldn't help but feel sorry for it. The poor thing must be frightened out of it's mind.

I caught up to the rabbit, and remembered the deep knowledge in the back of my brain, and let it take over my body. I looked into the frightened rabbit's eyes, and when it looked back, the eyes were far from the wild, scared eyes I expected. They were... calm.

A feeling of knowing passed between us, and I swiftly killed the rabbit. The moment was over. I heard wingbeats overhead, but nothing was to be seen. Then a rustling came from the top of a tree.

A crow squawked and fell from the tree, looking as if it had a broken wing. I pounced, not thinking, and it hopped away from my grasp. I looked at it's eyes. They had a glint to them, a certain glint that those birds had. Intelligence.

I jumped after it, and it shot into the air, as if it's wing was never broken. I turned back, and saw another crow swoop down and take the rabbit. I howled and barked after it, but it flew away, and I watched it join the other crow and they both flew off.

I growled at my ignorance and the fact that the crows were smarter than me. I should have guessed they would do that, I thought.
