(No Prompt. Just something that popped into my head. Gonna be sad, sorry. Fair warning).

The chilled breeze felt like needles against her perpetually pale skin. After months of waiting, the weather had finally become ideal. Despite winter supposedly setting in forever ago, it had only recently started to get cold, and only because of the light showers of rain that had plagued the area as of late.
She took a few steps closer, the breeze pelting her face even harder. It stung, but she relished in it. She let her eyelids fall close as she took a deep breath, filling her lungs with the razor sharp substance known as oxygen lingering around her. It burned, and she let out a weak laugh. What a lovely day.
She took another step. She couldn't help but notice how dreary the sky looked. The fuzzy grey of clouds blocked out any sort of nostalgic blue hues. Others may have found it to be depressing, however, she saw it in a different light. She much preferred the heavy abundance of cool shade over the usual burning rays of the sun. Her skin was too fair for her to risk stepping out into the great unknown on any ordinary day, so overcast days were more than welcome. Besides, the sun hurt her eyes.
She took another step. The sound of waves unnerved her. Bodies of water had always done that to her. She didn't like to swim, even pools made her panic most of the time. She was never entirely sure why this was. Perhaps it was just the idea of being at the mercy of whatever may come in an environment in which no one has come to fully understand. The ocean made her cry out in fear, lakes sent her running in the other direction, and as for ponds, such as this one, caused her to shake violently. This was evident by the sudden shakiness of her frail frame. She was beyond terrified.
She took another step. The water was up to her ankles now. With no sun to absorb any heat from, the water had grown incredibly cold, close to freezing in fact. She was sure, had she stood there for too long, she would receive a bad case of frost bite. Then again, that was rather the point... Well... Not quite.
She took two more steps. The dirt turned mud beneath her feet was just as cold as the water surrounding her up to her waist... Or perhaps her feet had just grown numb already. The shaking had returned. She allowed her eyelids to close again.
She took another couple of steps. The water was to her neck now, but she didn't dare open her eyes. She could feel the cold seeping into her, into her bones, into whatever was left of her soul. She inadvertently began to think of all the things that had led her to that point up until now. Once she realized what she was doing, she snapped her eyes open again. There was no time for second guessing herself!
She took one last step, and the cold enveloped her, freezing her lips into a permanent final smile.
