The mysterious song had led me far into the woods by this time. It was dark, and the sound was so infrequent now that I wasn't sure if it was actually there, or if it was just a hallucination of my exhausted mind. However, whatever it was had taken hold of my mind, and the idea of simply lying down and giving up never occured to me. But eventually, my body won out. I staggered a few more steps, but then I just collapsed. The tell-tale notes flew through through the trees once more, and I tried fruitlessly to pull myself up. Despite my best efforts (which weren't very much at that point), my body stubbornly refused to cooperate. And, to tell the truth...my mind wasn't entirely opposed. The idea of staying awake for much longer seemed impossible, let alone getting up again.
Wearily, I closed my eyes and let the darkness overtake me.
