The Summer Court controls the essence of summer and is responsible for awakening the Earth after winter has passed. Summer is the opposing court of the Winter Court. It is known for being very volatile; it is the court of pleasure and passion. Summer fae are often lighthearted and carefree, and many are capable of burning or other at their touch.

When he was only an infant, the Summer King was cursed by The Winter Queen and Irial, The Dark King. This curse bound his powers until such time as he could find his Summer Queen, at which point the Summer Court would return to its former strength.

The Winter Court is the court of death, of which is pale and frozen. Their sole purpose is to fuel the winter season and oppose the Summer Court. They make sure the Summer Court does not become too powerful and hence have a natural enemy in the Summer Court. The Winter Court's powers control the winter and all its harshness, which includes ice, snow, cold temperatures, water/water vapor. Ice seems to play the biggest role in defense; they use sharp ice as daggers and freeze things or people entirely. They have an awfully silent and raw demeanor to themselves, especially when it comes to defending the court. It's hard to say whether this is born out of some genuine hate for humans (and for the Summer Court ). Winter could simply be more dangerous by design than out of emotion.

The Night Court is the opposite of the Day Court. It is thought to have been one of the two original courts which resided in Faerie; the Night Court left Faerie to live among humans, and the Day Court stayed. It is the court of the darker emotions and realities; the court of temptation. Night Court fae feed off what Irial calls the "finer" emotions in other fae: pain, fear, lust, jealousy and rage. As such, the Night Court thrives during periods of turmoil among the fae and weakens during periods of peace. The Monarch of the Night Court is always chosen among the solitary fey, to give the court balance. Without this, the court would self-destruct. Once a Monarch retires and hands over the throne to someone else, he or she becomes solitary again

Essentially, the Day Court is viewed as holding itself apart from contests that don't involve themselves or harm to their Court. Their ruler is the High Queen, Sorcha, The Unchanging Queen and Logic. The Day Court is emotionless and/or controlled. Members of the Day Court don't live among mortals, but rather exist in the "otherworld" known as Faerie. They are practical to the extreme. It is revealed Sorcha and the Day Court have a penchant for stealing Half-lings and Sighted Ones, a practice the Night Court is aware of. It's not clear if the seasonal courts are unaware of the Day Court steals/takes half-lings and/or Sighted Ones; or if they simply don't have any to hide; or both.
