"Honey, you look so beautiful!" My mom says from her hospital bed.
"Thanks Mom, so do you. Smile!" I say as I hold up my camera.
She laughs as she holds her hands over her face. "No, I look horrible."
"No you don't. Come on, just one picture?" I ask.
She shakes her head with a smile. "Fine. But only for you." She says and looks at the camera and stretches her pale lips into a smile.
"Beautiful!" I said.
She grabs my arm and pulls me onto her bed and grabs my camera laughing.
"My turn." She said
She points the camera at us and staps a picture of us smiling and laughing.
"Are you ready to go Ashlie?" The social worker asks.
I'm looking through the window into my moms hospital room where she's currently in a coma. She's attached to a machine that has to breath for her with wires all Around her. Her skin was pale as the white sheet she lays on.
I don't answer her. I don't want to leave but its not my choice and it won't be for the next nine months until my eighteenth birthday. I turn away from the window without a word and begin to walk towards the exit with the blond haired social worker following close behind in her black pants suit.
"You're really going to like AshGrove. Its out in the country surrounded my forests and rivers. Fresh air." She kept trying to make light of the situation but I didn't need her to.
We lived in navada on the outskirts of the city of Las Vegas. She wants me to fly across country to a small town a few hours away from Atlanta Georgia surrounded by forest. I don't want to leave my mother alone but I have no one here to take care of me. Since I am still considered a minor I have no other choice but to do what the government tells me which is to live with an aunt I have never met and her daughter.
I get into the backseat of her car and slam the door behind me putting my ear buds in and turning up my music as loud as possible.
They don't have a right to make me abandon my home but I have no choice. I hate this.
