"She needs to rest and you need to leave." I heard Brenda say.

"But I was wanting to be here when she woke up." Said a deeper voice.

Is that... Kade?

"You know I can't let you do that. You have to go home Kaden. You can't be here, you'll only put her in more danger."

"But I can protect her." He said

"Kaden... Please just go home. She is safe here you dont have to worry. Please go."

I heard him sigh. "Fine... But, please. Let me know if something changes."

"I will. Now go before someone finds out you're here."

I hear the sound of a door closing and the shuffling of feet.

"Damn girl. You have that boy wrapped around your little finger. I doubt he'll let you out of his sight again since he's been away from you for this long." I heard Brenda say.

What could she possibly be talking about? I've only known him for about a week and a half... Haven't I?

"Yes, you're getting too close for comfort. You aren't ready for this world yet baby. Your momma sure wasn't." She said and I felt a pinch in my arm.

"I hate to have to do this to you... I really do but it's for your own good."

I felt drowsy again...

I felt her rub her soft hand over my forehead.

"One day, everything will make sense. Rest now."

I don't want to rest, I want answers! I wanted to scream it but I was getting farther and farther away. The darkness was coming back and so was ignorance. I couldn't forget.

Don't forget, Don't forget... Don't forget...

"Ashlie, honey?"

I groaned at the sudden brightness protruding through my eye lids.

"There you are. How are you feeling?" Brenda asked.

I had cotton mouth and a dry throat.

"W-water." I said through a scratchy voice.

I couldn't bring myself to open my eyes just yet. I felt a straw touch my lips and I began to guzzle the liquid.

"What happened?" I asked slowly.

"Oh, honey. those wolves came back and when you tried to run back to the house, you tripped and hit your head." She explained

"How long have I been out?" I asked.

"Two days. We called the doctor and he told us that it would he normally for you to be out for a few days. With all the stress you've been going through, I'm surprised you woke up so soon."

"Where's Beionca? Is she okay?"

"She's fine, just a little shaken up Is all."

"Too bright."

She chuckled. "Oh, I'm sorry honey. Seemed so gloomy in here." She said and shut the curtains.

"Was Kaden here? I thought I heard him."

She went quiet. "No, I'm sorry, he didn't."

Did she just... Lie to me?

I don't remember what they said but I remember that its was strange and that it was about me.

"So I was thinking... You've been through a lot of stress lately so What would you think about being homeschooled?"

I paused. I didn't come here to be put away. I wasn't going to switch my life around.

"No. I don't want to be homeschooled. I'm fine. Normalcy is exactly what I need right now." I said and began to sit up.

"Ashlie. As your guardian-"

"Temporary guardian." I interrupted. "I'll be eighteen in less than a year so I would like to finish highschool in an actual school." I said.

She sighed. "Please don't make me the bad guy by forcing you."

"And please don't make me the bad guy by going against your wishes." I said and walked out of the room.

It hurt with every step but I knew we needed time apart. Things kept getting stranger and stranger but I would be damned before i let the last bit of normal be stripped from me.

School was the only thing that could get me out of this situation. If and when my mom dies, where will I go? Definatly not here. Colledge would be the only way for me to get anywhere in life.

I stopped on my way up the stairs because something just seemed so... Familiar in the words I just thought. The fog lifted from my brain for a moment and a haze came over my vision.

"I don't know what you were thinking by marrying that monster Jennifer."

I turned around as i hear what sounded like Brenda talking to my mother, but how? I saw their foggy images stomp towards the kitchen and I followed.

"Please Brenda. I know we've had our differences in the past but please. I need you now more than ever. I need to get away from him."

"What about the boys?" Brenda asked.

"He would never hurt them but Ashlie... I overheard him talking to John and it sounded like he was planning to do something to her."

"Okay. I'll help you get out but it'll take me some time to get everything situated."

"If he finds out about this, he'll kill me." My mom said with worry laced in her voice.

"He would kill all of us."

The fog came back and thicker than ever. I found myself in the kitchen facing the cabinets with wetness dripping down my face. I was crying. I placed my palms on the cold marble countertop and steadied my breathing.

"Ashlie?" Brenda called from behind me.

"Who did you help my mother get away from?" I asked.

"What?"

"Who did you help my mother get away from Brenda?"

She didn't say anything for the longest time.

"Your father... I helped  her get you both away from your father."
