<<Nine>>
I've spent the last three days with Kade at school, to show people that I'm not afraid of them or anything they dull out to me. We have spent lunches together, study hall, and a few of our classes; casually getting to know eachother on our time.
I'm not bringing any romantic elements to the table when when it comes to our friendship because I know I won't be here forever and if him an I fall head over heels for each other (highly unlikely) but I'd rather not go forward with two broken hearts just in case my mom... You know.
I've been having vivid dreams lately of AshGrove. I keep seeing giant wolves and blood and death. It has to have something to do with the wolves I saw the other night. I keep seeing my self running through the woods in my dream, looking behind me every so often but I never see what's chasing me. I'm barefoot and the branches and rocks cut my feet up. I finally fall against a tree and in the split second where I look up, I see big white teeth coming at me. I wake up with a sheen of sweat and a trembling heart. Same dream for the last few days and I can't say that I'm digging the home movie.
It's friday but we're out of school because the teachers have to do their meeting day to discuss whatever it is they discuss. Currently I'm walking around outside of the back of the house, against the tree line. Its 72° today and it feels amazing with the wind going against me. Its strange how familiar I am with this place, how it feels like I know every corner and road it this town. Its almost creepy.
"Ash! What are you doing out here?!" Bieonca yelled speed walking out the back door towards me.
I stood there puzzled at her worried and agitated state. Her dark hair flew behind her at her speed. She came at me and grabbed me by my arm and began to pull me towards the house.
"What are you doing?" I asked and pulled against her.
"You shouldn't be out here alone Ashlie. You could get hurt!" She said gripping my shoulders. She looked around making sure there was no one around.
"What are you talking about Beionca?" I asked trying to pull out of her grip.
"Since you've decided to hang out with the town criminal, you have a target on your back."
"What's the worst they could do Be?"
"Believe me, you don't want to know. Now please get inside."
I sighed and just as I was about to step forward to go inside, I stopped. I dont know what came over me but I felt territorial all the sudden, then I heard the first growl.
"What is it Ashlie?" Beionca asked still holding onto my wrist.
I smelt wet dog.
"You didn't hear that?" I asked turning to look behind me.
"Hear what? Ashlie, we need to get inside."
The growl got louder followed by two more.
"You heard that didn't you?" I asked stepping back to the tree line.
"Please, Ashlie. Lets go back inside. Please." She pleaded.
A black figure stepped out of the tree line with its ears back. A wolf. Following behind it was a dark brown and grey wolf slightly smaller than the black one.
I heard Beionca gasp behind me and fall to the ground.
"Ashlie! Get away from them!" She yelled.
"Shh" I said and walked forward slowly.
They growled again but I kept walking forward. I dont know what has gotten into me, I just wasn't afraid of them or what they could do to me. They seemed so familiar in a wag I couldn't explain.
They took a step back and lifted their ears. The black wolf looked at me and I could have sworn that for a second it seemed like he recognized me. Just as quick as it was there, it was gone. He shook his head and snapped at me. He growled once more before stepping back and turning to walk away. The other two lagged behind before following suit.
"Ashlie?" Bieonca called.
I felt sad and defeated. I don't know why but I felt like I failed to do something. Sometimes I feel like there's a fog around my brain that I can't get through. I sigh.
"Go back inside Bieonca." I said and sat down on the ground a foot in front of the tree line.
She slowly walked up behind me, I could hear her foot steps.
"Ashlie, come with me. It's dangerous out here." She said and touched my shoulder.
I jerked away. "Go inside Bieonca. Now." I told her.
I needed time alone to sipher through the crazy that's impaled my brain. I put my head in my hands and tried my hardest to remember something... Anything before my eighth birthday. When they told me I came here last. I have a great memory, and the fact that I can't remember is driving me insane. What's going on with this place and why is it so hard to understand? I screamed and threw the closest object as far away from myself as I could and I heard it hit something hard. It was giving me a headache the harder I trued to focus.
Then I got a flash if someone. Someone I don't remember. He had dark hair and a beard to match, standing over me with angry radiating from his hazel eyes. Hazel like mine...
I came back to reality and noticed something wet and warm on my leg. I looked down and saw a big patch of red. I touched my nose and pulled it back. blood.
My head began to hurt and then my vision became fuzzy.
"Ashlie!" I heard a deep voice call then heavy footsteps coming towards me.
Black overtook my vision and I was out...
