It was time to leave. I sighed as I stretched across my bed. After serving in the Marines for 8 years I decided to take a break for once and travel to Japan for a change. It was a beautiful country with many attractions, people did have a tendency to stare at me strangely however. It was probably due to the fact that I didn't fit the slender stereotype everyone here seems to uphold. Unlike every other person here I wasn't exactly 'womanly' I had become toned from my time in service and my continuance to go to the gym whenever I could. I just really liked being toned and strong.
"Ritsu? You ready?" A voice called from outside my room.
"Yeah give me a sec." I responded. It was Greg we were going on a hike on a mountain near by as my last day in Japan. Mt Kurama in kyoto to be exact. I got up and grabbed all my stuff to load into the van we were taking.
"Took you long enough." He scoffed as I opened my door.
"Whatever, let's get going."
"Don't fall behind on the hike were on a tight schedule, honestly I don't know why you suddenly wanted to go hiking."
I shrugged as we walked out to the van. The car ride there was mostly filled with silence on our part and the music blaring at max volume. Suddenly Greg reached over and lowered the volume.
"Hey about what I said last night...."
"You were drunk right? I get it don't worry about it." I said with a half smile. He fidgeted in his seat a bit thinking about what to say to that.
"I-It wasn't just about me being drunk....I meant it Ritsu."
I chewed on my lower lip thinking about an appropriate response. See, Greg had asked me out last night. We were friends for 2 years now. We had met in the military and learning we had so much in common we had grown rather close. The problem was that I never saw him that way. He was a brother nothing more and nothing less but....I was already 25...maybe it was time to settle down and he wasn't a bad guy.
"Can I think about it?" I asked as I stared out the window. He sighed, relieved.
"Yeah...don't worry about it take all the time you need." He than proceeded to turn up the volume.
I had fallen for so many jerks in the past but Greg was different in the way that I wasn't exactly in love with him or anything. He was a great guy though, he'd been there through all the heartbreaks making me feel safe and strong. He brought out the best in me always pushing me past my limit.
"We're here." Greg announced breaking me out of my thoughts.
"It's beautiful." I gasped
The mountain was huge, vibrantly green with the skys blue contrast it looked like something out of a painting.
"The airs so clear." I said as I breathed in the scent of woods.
"Well let's get going." Greg chirped as he brushed past me. I grinned and followed. There was a trail marked out but we liked to go off trail making sure to leave markers in order to not get lost. After about an hour of walking and taking pictures we stopped to catch our breath and eat something.
"Isn't it getting a little foggy," Greg commented. "Maybe we should head back."
"No just a little longer." I begged. He smiled giving in.
"Fine...just a bit."
We continued up the mountain. The fog began growing thicker as if to ward us off.
"Hey I think we should stop..." I said as I turned back to Greg, but he wasn't there anymore. "Greg?" I called. No answer...Shit I have to find him soon...
"GREG!" I hollored. Still no response. The fogs grown thicker, I frantically searched for the markers we placed to no avail. "GREG!"
I sighed as I looked around trying to see if I recognized anything. The only thing in clear view was a huge cherry blossom tree. That's odd, I thought there wasn't any other cherry blossom trees on the way here. Well no point in panicking I thought as I took out my phone to take pictures of the tree.
"What are you doing?" A gruff voice said behind me. I turned to find a man at least 7 feet tall loom over me. My eyes widened, not at his sharp expression, or fierce glare or the fact that he was wearing a kimono in the middle of the mountain, but the fact that there were two huge black wings poking out behind him.
"I'll ask one more time woman what are you doing?" He growled, the way he said 'woman' almost as if in disgust bothered me.
"I'm taking a picture." I said coolly.
"Get out of here, no women are allowed here." He sneered.
"I would but I can't seem to find my friend. Would you happened to know where he is...?"
"How the hell would I know?! Just get out of here!"
He seemed to be getting angrier I flinched positioning myself for a possible fight, he moved towards me as if to grab me. I quickly dodged moving to position myself behind him, as I did so I managed to get ahold of his right wing. He yelled out in frustration shaking me off until we were face to face. He grabbed both my arms and pinned me against the cherry blossom tree. I flinched from the force he used to hold me down. Shit that hurt. I stared up onto his eyes defiantly. His faced reddened as he looked away.
"I'm not here to play woman get out of here."
"I need to find my friend first!" I cried as I tried to buck my legs up and wrap them around him. Thankfully it worked I tightened my grasp. He faltered a bit surprised by my act as I got ahold of his torso and broke out of his hand prison. I managed to wrestle him to the ground positioning myself on top, pinning down his legs focusing on holding him down as long as I could. He was strong so I knew it wouldn't be long before he managed to throw me off.
"Get off of me woman!" He shouted his face turning a scarlet red.
"Where is Greg?!" I shouted back, fighting his wriggling below me.
"I do not know of any 'Greg!" Just than a rustling sound behind me caught me off guard.
"Lord Jiro?"
I turned to look, only to be overthrown and knocked out...soon all I saw was darkness.
