Rotten Souls

Part 6

The next morning came sooner than Regina expected. Or at least she thought it was morning.. it was 4am and Regina was asleep. she woke up of the sound of her phone ringing. She sat on the bed and looked at her phone.

It was Daniel calling her. She held her phone and answered the call.
-Where the fuck are you?
He asked intensely. Regina rubbed her swollen eyes and answered him with a harsh voice.

- Thought I told you I would stay at work till late in the night. I finished the paper work an hour ago and didn't wanna get home in case I would wake you and Henry up. So Emma offered me to stay at her house so I did.

A big pause followed. Daniel didn't answer at first. Then she heard a loud noise like Daniel had kicked something. Her eyes widened open and called Daniel's name as softer as she could.

-I want you home now! Don't make me come there and pick you up!
- Daniel it's 4 am! I'll be home in two hours to get ready for work!
- you're not going to work tomorrow! I booked you an ultrasound to check up on you!

-check up on me for what? I'm healthy! I  would have known if something was wrong.
Regina told him and felt the fear talking up her entire body again
- I want a baby Regina! And I want it sooner as possible! So we're going to the hospital to ask the doctor's help of how we could have a baby sooner.

Regina took a look of her flat stomach. She wished there was no baby inside of her! It wasn't the right time to have a baby! Not now that she had decided to get away of Daniel. She was planning to leave him peacefully without making a fash about it.

She was sure that was not going to happen. Daniel would freak out and hunt her down! It would be harder with a baby in the middle..
- Daniel it's better to wait till that baby comes by itself! We don't need to rush.
-YES WE HAVE!

He screamed at the phone and Regina shut her eyes closed.
- why? Why are you in such a hurry?
- I want a baby Regina. I son specifically. To teach him how to swordfight and stuff!

He answered demanding.
- I'll be there to pick you up in five.
Regina declined nervously.
- no no! You know what? I'll get ready and come over in five! You don't have to come pick me up!

Daniel thankfully agreed and hung up the phone. Regina got out of bed and dressed up as silently as she could so she wouldn't wake up Emma. But there was Emma. Standing outside of Regina's room holding a glass of water.

"Don't tell me you're going home because Daniel demanded it!"
"Henry is at home with him! I don't wanna make him mad right now!"

Emma approached Regina and sat on the bed next to her and held Regina's hand.
"look at you Regina. This is not you honey. I know I hated that bossy attitude of yours, but you're his slave! You shouldn't let anyone tell you what to do! Can't believe I actually wish you were that bossy person you used to be."

Regina laughed ironically and stood up crossing her hands under her breasts.
"Can't believe you'd ever say that. Emma we are not always what we pretend we are. And I can't put my son's life in danger because I wanna be that bossy person right now. Can't even dare disobey Daniel in that moment. He'll get angry and Henry will be scared..I don't want Henry to find out about anything."

Regina said and bowed down her head. She wanted to be at least a good mother. It was the ugly  truth... She wasn't herself lately. She couldn't dare be herself lately. She had to protect the person she loved most.
"Honey Henry is the one who knew since day one. He was the one that told me he was suspicious about your relationship with Daniel. He's your son! He knows you better than anyone."

Emma said to ease Regina's pain. Regina smiled when she heard Emma's words. It was like a dash of Hope in the middle of a catastrophe. Her son was really precious to her. She didn't want him to know anything about her dark side, or her dark secrets but seemed like Henry knew all along.

She grabbed her bag and smiled at Emma.
"My son may wants to protect me, but I'm the mother here. I should be the one to protect him." She kissed Emma's cheek and walked towards the door.

"You don't have be so strong all the time! Just tell me you need help and I'll be there for you." Emma said and followed Regina till the door.

"I know... But I won't! That's me!" She walked out of the house moving her hips pretending to be independent, but she was broken inside. Emma shut the door quietly and served herself a glass of wine. She couldn't stop thinking of that kiss.

It was magical. She felt that there was more between her and Regina except their friendship. It wasn't the right time  to speak at Regina about it. Regina was confused and scared.. she wouldn't be able to handle Emma's feelings.

But Emma was inpatient. She couldn't wait till the next time she would grab Regina into her arms and kiss those plump lips again!
Regina reached her house and opened the front door. Daniel was waiting for her in the living room. He was asleep holding the remote control.

Regina exhaled and headed to her son's room. He awake. Holding a flashlight under his sheet and reading a book. She had hopes for him.. he was a smart kid and she was a proud mother. He loved reading and discovering the world.

She knocked his door and he turned off the flashlight pretending to be asleep.
"Honey it's me!" Regina whispered and sat next to him on the bed. Henry turned to her side and looked at her.

"Do you want me to sleep with you tonight like I used to do when you were little?"
Henry smiled broadly and let Regina lay down next to him. He hated being treated like a little child but he knew his mother needed him more than ever.

He wanted to see her smile again. He used to make her smile. But since he realized something was wrong with her and Daniel that smiled had disappeared of her face. He hugged her and placed his head under her neck. She caressed his hair and played with a tuft of his.. he smiled and fell asleep sooner than he planned.

The sun rised and Daniel knocked on Henry's bedroom door. Regina heard the knock and woke up. Daniel was holding a new pair of jeans and a clean t-shirt.
"We are leaving in 10'. Get dressed."

He threw the clothes on the bed and Regina rubbed her eyes..she was afraid to go to the doctor. She actually hated hospitals..but she didn't have a choice. If Daniel really wanted to go to the doctor she had to follow his plan wishing she wasn't already pregnant.

She took a quick shower and woke up Henry.
"What is it? It's 7 am!"
"Daniel and I have an important job to do..so gotta take you over mum's house. I'm sorry baby... but I really have to go."

She said and kissed his cheek.
"What job?"
He asked and raised his eyebrow aware that Regina was lying. She had that look of regret inside her eyes whenever she lied to him.
"It's a thing about my job. The mayor has to take care of everything in this town you know."

She answered and walked to the bathroom to wash her face and brush her teeth.
"What could the mayor possibly do so early in the morning?" He asked and got up and started dressing up.

"It's a grown ups thing baby! You wouldn't understand anyway." She said in a serious voice and got out of the bathroom already dressed up.
Henry didn't continue the conversation..he knew something was wrong. He nodded and got dressed. He grabbed his mp3 player and the book of stories his grandma snow white had given to him before finding out about the curse.

He walked out of the room and got into the car. Regina got in the sit next to the driver and Daniel started the car. They dropped  off Henry at Emma's house and headed to the hospital...
