Chapter 5: True Awakening

"Danielle, wake up, Danielle!" I opened my eyes again. It was all just a dream. "Ty, Ty she's up!" Father said. Daddy walked over and they looked down to me smiling. No Sasha, though....

"Danielle, oh thank Notch you're awake!" Daddy said and hugged me. When he let go, I sat up in bed.

"Here, drink this, Danielle." Father said and gave me a glass bottle filled with something. I took it from him and drank it quickly, knowing they wouldn't hurt me no matter what. I winced at the quick spread of the feeling of flames in me. The feeling ended with a cooling touch, as the bruises and cuts on me started to fade away. I stared down at my arms and legs as the marks disappeared. The feeling moved through me and left out my fingers and toes. "Uncle Seto gave that to us. It was a potion of regeneration." I smiled slightly at Uncle Seto's kindness.

I moved over to the side of my bed and stood up. Losing my balance, I fell back onto my bed. Daddy and Father lightly chuckled and helped me back up. It took me a second to get going, kinda like I needed to learn to walk again.

Slowly, I made my way down the hall and stairs. I turned the corner at the bottom of the staircase and saw someone sitting on our lime wool couch. They turned their head to me and I tripped where the brown carpet started.

They chuckled slightly and said,"You okay?"

"Ya. I'm fine." I said as I got up again.

"Oh, Danielle, forgot to mention, your friend Sasha is here." Father said as he came down the stairs.

"I kinda figured that out on my own." I said, rubbing the back of my neck. Sasha chuckled and Father had a questioning look on his face. I smiled slightly and walked into the kitchen.

"Danielle, what are you doing?" Daddy asked, joining Father at the bottom of the stairs.

"Going in the backyard, to get some fresh air."

"Okay, just be careful. Its night out." Father told me.

"Alright." I said and walked to the back door, exiting into the night. I sat down on the edge of the lake piece in the yard and put my feet in the cool water. Sasha joined me in it. The light wind blew her hair back with every blow. "So, where are you from?" I asked, ending the silence.

"Its a small kingdom. You probably haven't heard of it."

"Well, that depends. What was the name?"

"The Slime Kingdom. The king's Mr. Williamo."

"Oh, I've heard of that one. Its a cool kingdom. Why'd you move?"

"To get a fresh start. My dad had been busted for illegally making mods and texture packs. After serving three years in prison, he was let out, and we moved."

"Wow. That..that's a sad back story."

"Yea, but it's mine. Yours?"

"Not much has happened to me. Except that I always have been picked on for being so ahead in school."

"Even though you're like the princess here?"

"I don't like for anyone to know that I'm the 'princess'. Its a little embarrassing."

"Well, one way or another, they're probably just jealous." I smiled into the lake and looked at our reflections, seeing that she was doing the same. "So, Danielle, do you...wanna be...friends?" She asked me. I looked up to her, and with a big smile said,

"Yea, of course!"

"Hey, you know what friends do, right?"

"What?"

"This!" She wore an evil smile as she splashed water onto me.

"Hey!" I shouted and splashed her back, laughing. I might finally have a real friend...

(Ty's POV)

I stared out the window, watching our little girl play with her friend. Adam placed his arm around my waist and I rested my head on his shoulder.

"Ty, she's growing up." He said happily.

"Adam," I turned and looked at him, "Sasha didn't say why Danielle was beat up. Or why she was the only one who helped. I'm worried for her." I said.

"Ty," He brushed my hair off of my eye, "Ty, don't worry. If she's anything like you, she's brave beyond compare."

"But, Sky, we adopted her. She doesn't have our blood in her."

"We raised her, though. She's a strong, brave girl." With that, he brought me closer to him and wrapped his arms around me. I draped my arms over his shoulders and watched the girls play outside. Danielle said something then they stopped splashing each other. She took out her brown pigtails and put her hair into a ponytail on the back of her head. She handed the other to Sasha who put her hair into a tiny black/red ponytail on the back of her head too.

"Danielle!" I shouted and broke away from Adam. A skeleton stood on the outside of the fence, bow drawn back. Sasha must've noticed because she grabbed Danielle and threw them into the water as the arrow went flying. Sky ran outside, budder sword in hand, and killed it with two hits. I ran out too, pulled Danielle out of the water, and hugged her close. She buried her face in my shoulder and I rested my chin on her head. Sasha had pulled herself out and stood beside us. I caught her gaze and mouthed "Thank you." She nodded gently as Adam ran over to us.

"Danielle, are you okay? Are you hurt?" He asked frantically.

She mumbled, "I'm fine." into my shoulder. Adam started rubbing circles on her soaked back.

"Adam, take her inside and warm her up." I told him, letting go of Danielle. He cradled her close and went inside.

"Sir, if you're gonna praise me for saving her, don't sweat it." Sasha said.

"Well, thank you anyways. She never learns that the night's dangerous."

"Wait, so this has happened before?"

"Mhmm. A couple times."

"So.. as proper as I can say this-"

"You don't need to be all proper around us." I moved closer and put my hand on my cheek as if blocking someone from seeing what I was saying. "To be honest," I whispered, "We're still really fuckin' childish." And shot her a grin.

She smiled back. "Well, in that case, I know why Danielle was beat up..." Her smile faded as her sentence ended.

"Let's get inside and you can tell Adam and I." With that, I stood and we went inside.
