Charlotte Jacobs has always loved the park. Her favorite was the swingsets. She loved to swing with her headphones in, close her eyes, and pretend like she was flying and nothing could hold her back. Swingsets were special to Charlotte.
Charlotte met her best friend, Luke, at the swingsets, Charlotte came to the swingsets when she needed good luck before a test or a big event, Charlotte came to the swingsets every day last year when her brother died. The swingsets were her safe haven, as silly as it may sound. Its a nice quiet place where she can think and sit and be alone.
She can't go home and have alone time without being interrupted by someone in her family. She loves them, but shes a 17 year old teenage girl, trying to figure her life out before going to college next year. Trying to figure out how she's going to get past her brothers death and move on with the life she once had. She misses him, he was the only person who truly understood her. She needs him.
Charlotte didn't think she'd ever be able to move on from Caleb's death. She felt trapped, stuck. None of her family nor Luke could get her out of this. She felt alone, even though she had the most support surrounding her. Charlotte was ready to give up. That is, until she met Michael Clifford.
The boy with the white porcelain skin. The boy who dyed his hair too much. The boy who always wore ripped jeans and band shirts. And the boy who was going to get her out of the hole she dug herself into.
Charlotte knew she had put herself in this hole after Caleb's death. She knew she was supposed to fight to accept his death rather than let her sadness consume her. She knew. She just didn't know how to stop it.
