For the next few days, Charlotte couldn't get her mind off of the red headed boy she saw at the swings. She so badly wanted him to come back, so that she could work up the courage to actually talk to him. She hoped and prayed that she wouldn't be a baby and she could come out of her shell, meet someone new.
It had been four days since Charlotte had seen the red headed boy. It was late, 9 PM, and Charlotte was at the swings with her headphones in, listening to her music and singing a long.
"Heartbreak
Summer's gone and so is she
The only one left I know is me
But I still feel fucked" (okay rex orange county is one of my all time favs)
Charlotte had her music so loud, she didn't even realize the person she's been thinking about for the past four days was sitting right next to her. She continued swinging and singing with her eyes closed, until finally she felt like someone was watching her. She looked next to her and immediately stopped swinging. Her face got red and she looked away really quickly realizing she was singing at the stop of her lungs.
She was thinking to herself what a GREAT first impression she probably just made. She sat trying to think of a way to start a conversation. She had no idea what to do. Charlotte knows she sucks at communication and conversation starting. She looked over at the boy and noticed he was swinging, so she started swinging with him.
"Uhhh hi..?" She sheepishly let out, hoping she didn't sound too awkward.. Although she did.
He smirked at her, "Hi." He could see how nervous and awkward she was, he didn't know why, he was just a normal boy. Nothing special.
" Do you come here often?" She already knew the answer to that question, considering the fact she's literally here every single day basically.
"Nah, not really. The swings used to be my favorite part of the park when I was little, so I figured I could come and check them out, see how I feel about them now that I'm 18." He chucked, knowing he probably sounded stupid.
"Well?? How do you feel about them?"
"They're fun, I think I'm gonna break it though.." She laughed loudly at that. He smiled at her already loving the sound that came out of her mouth, and hoping to make her do it again. "What!! I'm serious." He laughed with her.
"You aren't gonna break them, they're a lot stronger than you may think." Their laughter died down. "I like your hair by the way. Red is my second favorite color."
"Thank you." He smiled at her. "If red is your second favorite color, what's your first favorite color?"
"Blue.. I LOVE blue"
He smiled at the blond girl. He thought she was absolutely stunning.
"What's your name?" He asked her, wanting to put a name to the face.
"Charlotte Jacobs." She reached her hand out to shake his.
"Michael Clifford." He put his out to shake it. They shook hands while looking into each others eyes. Michael was mesmerized by how gorgeous she was, and she felt the same. But neither of them knew it. He felt like he could look into her grey eyes forever.
Michael wanted to tell her how beautiful she was, but he didn't want to ruin something that's barely even started.

That night Michael and Charlotte talked about anything and everything. Getting to know each other little by little. They sat on the swings talking until 11 PM, when her mother texted her to come home. They said goodbye, knowing they'd meet each other again soon. They had a connection, they began to form a special bond within 2 hours. Charlotte was excited to get to know Michael more and to incorporate him more into her life.
It was now the next day and Charlotte was meeting Luke for lunch. She planned on telling Luke all about Michael, she was so excited.
Luke came and picked her up and they drove to a nearby café. They sat down, and Charlotte immediately began to talk.
"Okay so I met a boy Luke." She squealed.
"Really?? Who is he and how??" Luke was excited for Charlotte because he hadn't seen her this happy or excited in a while, but he still wanted her to be careful.
"His name is Michael and he came to the swingset one night and ughhh he's too cute and he has red hair and I like him a little bit already and I'm so excited to just get to know him......." She gushed about Michael like this for 5 more minutes.
"Charlotte he sounds great. Maybe you should ask him on a date, turn the tables a little?? Spice it up??? Add a little paprika to the situation" Luke laughed at himself. Charlotte just rolled her eyes at her crazy best friend.
"I don't know Luke what if he thinks I'm weird and says no.." Charlotte trailed off thinking of all the bad possibilities.
"Oh come on charmander, from the way you're talking about this guy I think you should go for it."
Charlotte thought about it for a little. It wouldn't kill her to maybe ask.. She knows she needs to step out of her box and not be anxious of the outcomes.
"Okay Luke.. You're right. Next time I see Michael I'm gonna ask him on a date."
