The next day, you anxiously wait by the front gate of the school, Hoseok's phone held tightly in your hand as your mind thinks of what to say when you see him. With a shake of your head, you refocus on the students walking by the gate, your foot constantly tapping the ground, but as time passes by, Hoseok is nowhere to be seen, and soon the bell rings and you rush inside.
Your eyes scan over his desk as you enter the classroom, hoping that maybe somehow you missed him as he walked in, but that doesn't seem to be the case.
Maybe he's just late.
You think to yourself with a small shrug, chin resting on your palm as you take your seat, your eyes focused on his spot during the lesson.
Nobody else seemed to notice his absence, but every time the door opened or someone walked by the window your eyes followed the person hoping that it was him, but he never came.
Maybe he got sick.
Your mind argues.
Yes, that's probably it. Hoseok usually doesn't skip school just because... I would have noticed....
Then I'll give it to him tomorrow.
You decide tracing the edges of his phone with your finger, head snapping up as the bell rings.
With a sigh, you gather your things and prepare to go home, hoping that tomorrow you'll finally get to talk to Hoseok.
Tomorrow came and Hoseok was nowhere to be seen. The day after that, he didn't show up either, nor the day after.
You were starting to get worried.
Hoseok and yourself had been in the same grade ever since you can recall, and he had never, ever missed several days of school in a roll.
You think about asking your other classmates if they know about Hoseok's whereabouts but he doesn't really have any friends, and even though it has been a few days, no one seems to have noticed except for yourself.
I miss you Hoseok. You think to yourself staring at his empty seat, your fingers hovering over his desk.
You continue to wait and hope that Hoseok will come back to school again soon, but with each passing day, your heart breaks a little more.
Where are you? Are you okay? Did something happen to you Hoseok?
By the time you know it, two months have passed by and Hoseok hasn't showed up.
His prolonged absence is finally noticed as kids begin to talk about Hoseok again, rumors spreading about like a wildfire.
Funny how they only use his absence to gossip among themselves. They didn't seem the least bit concerned about him.
As you listen to them talk, your mind travels back to the last time you saw Hoseok. It had been a while back but you can still recall how sad he looked that day.
Maybe you should have asked him to eat lunch with you that day.
With a sigh, you ball your hands into fists and look at the gray sky outside, dark clouds covering up the expanse above.
You can no longer ignore the thought that has been pestering you for a while now.
Something is definitely up.
