The warm summer air is filled with loud noise as students roam around the classroom, chasing each other, gossiping and overall being loud.
Whispers echo and pass left and right as he walks by the hallways, and his hand clutches the straps of his back pack tighter.
But like everyday for as long as you could remember, he makes his way to the end of the classroom and sits at the back of the class.
He was the kid that no one talked to, and the boy you had developed a crush for since the beginning of the school year.
Jung Hoseok.
Not noticing your stare, you give him a small smile but he keeps his head hung low.
"Alright class," Mr Kim calls out as he steps into the classroom, "settle down. We are about to begin."
With that, the students rush to their places and silence fills the air, interrupted when Mr. Kim clears his throat.
"So, today we are going to be learning about..." You block out his voice as you focus on Hoseok, who keeps his head down and rests his arms on top of the desk.
"Mr Jung?" Mr Kim calls out and Hoseok lifts his head turning to look at the teacher. "Are you with us?"
"Yes sir. Sorry about that." Hoseok says with a smile and scratches the back of his head.
Some students laugh and call out a few things, Hoseok laughing along with them with a big smile, showing his perfect teeth.
The smile remains on his face until Mr Kim turns around and continues with the lesson.
For a brief moment, the two of you make eye contact and Hoseok smiles at you, but it's a pained smile and it doesn't reach his eyes.
You turn around slightly and glance back, only to see his smile fade followed by a small sigh.
Letting a small sigh of your own, you turn around and try to refocus your attention on the lesson, the boy's pained expression not leaving your mind.
Hoseok rarely smiled, and on the few occasions he did, like today, his eyes still seemed empty...
By the time you know it, you shake your head as the bell rings indicating that it's lunch time.
As everyone walks out of the classroom, you take out your lunch and get ready to head to the patio, but before you go out, you stop by the door and look at Hoseok, who remains on his seat and looks out the window.
Maybe I should ask him if he wants to join me for lunch? You think to yourself but stop mid way as he looks at you.
Your eyes widen as you freeze on your spot, fear momentarily running through your veins.
"I-um-I f-forgot something." You stutter out and Hoseok nods, a dark shadow momentarily passes over his face.
You quickly get to your place and pretend to look for something, letting a satisfied hum when you find it and place it on your pocket.
All the while, you could feel Hoseok's eyes on you.
As you turn around to face him, you bow politely and exit the classroom, placing your hand over your fast paced heart.
That was a close call. You think to yourself, taking in a deep breath and resuming your walk.
The building was clear now, and in the classroom, you could still make out Hoseok's silhouette by the window.
Is he not coming out? You think to yourself sitting on the grass and looking at the window but Hoseok never moved from his spot.
As the end of the day reaches, you nervously bounce your knee up and down awaiting for the bell to ring.
You have been thinking about it all day and you think now is the time to do it...
The bell rings and you quickly shove everything in your backpack, struggling for a few minutes before successfully closing it and sloppily hanging it over your shoulder.
By the time you turn around, he's nowhere to be seen, the corner of your eyes catching a glimpse of the back of his head as he turns in the hallway.
His head is hung low, and his hands are stuffed into his pockets, his mind clearly somewhere else.
As you are about to take a mother step you hear a low crunch and your eyes land on a shiny black object on the ground.
Crouching down, you grab it and examine it, pressing the power button but the screen remains dead and there was only one person that phone could belong to.
"H-Hoseok-ah." You try to call out but your voice comes out lower than you expected, not reaching him since the boy didn't even look back.
By the time you think you reached him it's too late. He is already stepping into the black limousine waiting for him.
You watch as the engine comes to life and the car starts to move, Hoseok's gaze focused on the seat in front of him as he leaves.
With a sigh, the car keeps moving and although you think about running after the car, you know that it's no use.
I'll give it to him tomorrow.
You think to yourself and hold the phone close to your chest.
