Jurnee's POV
"Can we all just talk in normal voices?" my momma said sitting bottles of water on the table. I looked around the room at Demyya who was crying, staring at her momma. I looked towards Kenny while he daydreamed with his attention on Demyya.
"Demyya, your daddy is a lying piece of sh—"
"Don't lie to me Ma. Tell me what really happened. Pleasee," Demyya begged lowering her voice. I felt really bad for her, all she wanted was the answers and Ms. DeAnna was dodging her questions.
"My two, let's go," momma yelled getting mine and Kenny's attention. Kenny stood up and walked towards the kitchen. Demyya and I were supposed to be going shopping today. I also wanted to hear what Ms. DeAnna was going to tell her so I continued to sit still.
Myya looked up at me and knew I needed saving. Momma was trying to make us go to my Aunt Pina's house again. "Ma, you know what? I'll ask him. I'll finally hear him out since you don't think I deserve to know."
I watched her walk to my momma and whisper a few words and then she walked off towards the kitchen. I just sat there confused, hoping like hell, she got me outta going. Kenny is gonna be upset because momma said he was going no matter what.
"Why you still sitting there? Come on before the store closes," Myya said standing at the front door, holding up the keys to our new silver, 2015 Hyundai Sonata.
I hurriedly got up from the couch and ran downstairs to get my purse and charger. I double checked to make sure my wallet was in there and ran back upstairs. Myya was already outside so I headed straight towards the front door.
"Since you always seem to have something to do or always with Myya. Tomorrow, Myya's coming with us and I'm not taking anything for an excuse," I stopped in my tracks and turned towards my momma. "So after school, you and Myya drive straight to Pina's house."
"Momma! Monique's birthday is this weekend. We're supposed to be staying at her house," I whined throwing a mini tantrum.
"Well, either y'all bring Monique with y'all or forget about spending her birthday with her," momma walked off before I could say anything else. I walked out of the house and dreaded telling Demyya what happened.
"You look like you saw a ghost," she said as I got in the car. Demyya pulled out the driveway and headed towards town.
"No but we're gonna see one tomorrow," I retorted.
"What do you mean tomorrow? Jurnee what aren't you telling me?" Just as I was about to speak, Demyya stopped the car and pulled up to the atm. "Explain Jurnee," she insisted before turning to the atm and pressing buttons.
"Momma said we gotta go to Aunt Pina's house after school and either we bring Monique with us or we don't spend it with her at all and she's not taking no excuses," I said all in one breath hoping Demyya wouldn't make me slow it down.
She grabbed her money from the slot and pulled off towards the Pink store.
"Good! I wanna see what's so bad about Aunt Pina anyway. Monique could come or be alone. Her choice!" Demyya yelled the last few words.
"Are y'all still mad at each other? Y'all need to get over it. How were you gonna stay over and y'all not friends?" I asked applying some lip gloss.
"I had other plans," she shrugged. "I was gonna be with RaiShaun but now I'll cancel since I have to."
Eventually, we came to a stop and Myya put the car in park. It felt so clean and pure outside today. The wind was blowing and the sun was out. The leaves were slowly falling from the trees and blowing across the parking lot. I closed the car door and waited on Demyya to get out.
