I see the faces. The shock gleaming from their eyes. You could see the tears welling in their eyes. The mine... My fathers homes, the home to all men in the town. I remember... The sounds... The wailing of pain coming from just inside the mine. The rocks plunging from underneath, as loud as a plane taking flight. The ground shook, just as an earthquake shakes the Earth. As loud and as busy as this mine was at the moment, all I could hear and see was my father coming from the mine. I rushed towards him, covered in dust, I look into his eyes and noticed the fear spilling out from them.
"Father, is everything okay?" I needed to know what happened, what had made my father so scared? There was no reply. As the medics pulled me away from the scene I heard grumbles, but no words, as if he couldn't speak.
"We must evaluate them first then we'll let them go home, wait here please." spoke the medic that pulled me back to the crowd. I waited, the sun was almost gone now. Most of the families had left hours ago, the same medic as before came out from the office my father was in, she slowly walks over to me...
"You can go home now, but you father must stay with us until the ambulance arrives." she had the sweetest voice I had ever heard "He... He is severely injured, he took a rock to the head and he can no longer talk nor can he hear anything. He can still walk but his legs are very fragile, I can't tell you how long he will be hospitalized for, but it might be for a few years."
"I won't leave until I see my father safe." My mother had enough problems, so I had to take care of my father and make sure he didn't do anything stupid.
"Follow me, you can wait inside while you wait for the ambulance." She was so kind and caring, I was too worried for my father to talk right now though. I went inside the room and tried to hear what the medics were saying. I couldn't really hear anything other then a few mumbles and the wind blowing in the cloudless night. The ambulance, a banshee screeching through the sleeping town sent a wave of fear. Even though it's been almost four hours since the incident some of the town hadn't heard about the mine yet. Far off in the distance I can see the flashing lights, getting closer every second.
"The ambulance is here, your father will go to the hospital and be evaluated by the doctors there. We will be leaving with him." It's the same medic as earlier, the only medic that actually talked to me. "I can drive you home before I go to the hospital if you'd like."
"Thank you for offering but I don't live too far away." I lied, I live very far away but I was going to stop by my mothers store and take one of those 90 cent sandwiches that have been sitting in the store for three days. I walk alone, all the lights are off, all except the lamplights hanging from in front of the stores. I can notice the restaurant far off in the distance, it was always easier to find it during the night, for it was the only store that had no lamplight. On top of the doorframe was a white key, I grabbed the key and walked in. To my surprise, my mother was sat down at one of the tables, I sit down next to her.
"What happened at the mine?" The fear in her voice worried me, so I told her all that I knew.
