Chapter 44

After waking up she was as if possessed, not letting him have his ways but always talked back, not like herself. Well, maybe this was the way of her to relieve her stress, by pretending to have lost her memories. She pretended as if she had never met him like they were complete strangers. However, he didn't mind. Her stubbornness reminded him of the days they just met. She didn't have to be conscious of his existence but acted without restraints.

Although she could be stubborn, she was still charming in her own way. If it meant that she would felt better by pretending to have amnesia, then so let it be.

Soo didn't understand why he would put up to her tantrums. She believed the emperor to be a short-tempered annoying jerk but for long he had been overbearing with her cold attitude. Soo really wished he could leave her alone and just disappear from her sight of view but he never granted her that wish. Maybe it was because she couldn't walk, that he felt the oblique to stay and take care of her.

After laying sick in bed for about fourteen days she had become dependent on his help to move around. Those stupid legs of her simply didn't work the way they used to, it bothered her more than she could express with words.

"You are up?" He entered the hut.

"Should we go for a walk?"

"Well, I wouldn't mind if you took that on yourself and walked out of that door," Soo replied.

"Don't you have better things to do than bothering me?" Speaking informally has become a bad habit.

"Not really," he answered.

"By the way, aren't you tired to stay in bed like that? Staying there for too long will make you forget how to walk."

"Who cares."

And here it goes.

By noon the food was ready. After putting the dishes on the table he then walked over to Soo, looking at her pretending to sleep. His one arm swept under her legs and another around her back.

"What are you doing!?" Soo blurted, punching him with her small fist as she was carried.

"You should hit harder if it is supposed to hurt," He spoke with a lifted brow. Her punches were really too weak.

Placing her on the chair at the table he then seated himself across it.

"Let's eat."

The dishes were purposely placed closest to her, but Soo didn't want to reach out for any of them.

"Aren't you going to eat?" He spoke, a little smile tugged his lips.

"Afraid of gaining weight?"

"I'm not hungry," Soo answered. Yet, just as those words were out her stomach growled as if there was a war.

"That's how people get trust issues." The words and even his tone was teasing her.

"You don't have to be think about your weight,"

"I'm not! My body is perfectly fine, even if I ate to ten banquets I wouldn't gain weight!"

"Sure, if you say so,"

Did... he just laugh at me?

He took up the bowl of rice and started eating, although Soo still remained neglecting to do so. He finished an entire bowl while she was being sullen. Only when he was done with his meal, did she take up the bowl and started eating on her own.

When she was done, he then carried her back to her bed and before leaving put a stack of clothes on the bed with a needle and thread.

"When you feel like it, you can patch these clothes."

Is the nation having financial struggles? Why would the emperor give make me patch his clothes? And why me?!?

Was she angry?

"Why would I stitch your clothes! Ask your wife to do that!"

"I am,"

After that he went out, leaving Soo boiling with anger.

.

.

He took the paved road and walked deeper into the forest to gather more woods. On his way, a familiar figure was crossing his path. Jimong was riding a horse, but at his presence, the astronomer jumped down from the horse and went to his knees.

"Your majesty," The astronomer greeted.

"Don't call me that, I am not your emperor anymore."

It was true that he was no longer the emperor, that he had given up that throne the moment he left the palace to save Soo. He threw everything away and forged his dead on the wedding day, leaving the bride Yeonhwa in tears.

"Long time no see Jimong,"

"It really has," Jimong smiled.

Sitting on a huge trunk the two men shared small stories talking about old and new times.

A/N: as he no longer is the emperor I would refer him as Wang So from now on. (Although it is Junki's Soul, he is still living in Wang So's body). Just so you don't get confused. 🤗

"How are things in the palace?" Wang So asked.

"Well, last week we held your funeral." Jimong awkwardly said. "It was very grand"

Wang So couldn't help but laugh at the thought of not being present to witness his funeral.

"The former Empress Yeonhwa had been mourning your death since that day,"

Jimong paused, feeling more awkward the more he spoke.

"She is still deeply grieving."

Hasn't Yeonhwa tried to kill Soo, he might have felt guilty for hurting her.

"What about Baekha?" Wang So asked.

"Pissed."

"What?"

"He is very pissed. He often curses you for making him the crown prince and for not producing an heir before leaving. After he became the emperor he had been very stressed and gets easily irritated. He often glares at me with scary eyes and threats me to tell where you are. He is having a hard time...."

Baekah associated with cursing and anger, that was really a sight Wang So didn't want to miss. At the moment he couldn't help but smile just by the thought. Indeed, it's hard to remain sane in that position.

"And how is lady Soo doing?" Jimong asked, turning the topic.

"Well, she pretends not to know me. Maybe she is holding a grudge for me marrying another woman."

From the words, Jimong supposed that his friend hasn't told his love that he abandoned Yeonhwa in tears on the wedding day.

"And...And how are your headaches?"

"It comes and goes, but it happens less."

Taking a bottle from his robes, Jimong reached it for his friend.

"These pills will help you lessen the pain, if you need help, come to me anytime."

A/N: here is an update everyone, hope you have a nice day ^^
