He doesn't even remember what happened once that bullet pierced through him.
For all he knew, it was endless. He could only recall the warm blood trickling down. Burnout collapsed to his knees and felt as if he had fallen from the heaven's only to plummet to the soil of the Earth. Plunging to his inevitable death. The pain of the bullet dulled along with his conciousness. He was numb to the world.

Dammit.

Was all he could say within his mind as his breath no longer held the capacity to even string together a mere sentence.
He had fought hard. So hard. And yet, he didn't envision his time would come to this.

Shadow ops had warned him in advance of what his actions would lead him up to. Through countless scolding, he could see her wagging her finger in his face with that look of unapproval in her eyes.
That memory of her in his mind. Her eyes were so full of emotion, fear, anger.

Was she scared for me?

He had to wonder. Her eyes were engraved into his mind. He hated it. He hated to see her that way. But... despite it, he'd rather sacrifice his life to save many more on the mission.

Especially her.

"... Burnout ..."

He could hear a faint voice between the void of life and death.

"...Please... Please don't die..."

The voice was pained. He could feel it. And what made it much worse? What made it beat at his heart and cause a lump in his throat? That it sounded like her voice...

The dark tendrils of nightmares awoke him. It was as though centuries of purgatory had passed before his body shook and had realized it was still alive.
Burnout could almost feel the life shooting back into his body through his veins and into his heart. Almost as if he had been dead and resurrected.
He made an attempt to open his eyes, everything was blurred as his mind tried to process and enter the place into focus. It was as though he had open his eyes for the first time and the light stung horribly.

"Fuck." He groaned with a dry rasp in his throat.

Burnout tried to raise himself up from the bed he was lying on. It was a huge mistake when he was punished with crippling pain that forced him back.

"Careful Burnout. You don't want to open your wounds up."

"Dammit..." He said with a strong huff, "Wait...why am I still-"

"Alive?" Her voice drove sharp into the pit of his heart.

Burnout focused his eyes on a figure that rose and approached him. As it drew near, he was met with the visage of Shadow ops. Burnout rubbed his eyes, then settled to look at her.

"You know, you're very lucky that you lived." Her voice was harsh as she looked him over briefly before placing her hands at her hips.

He could have sworn he caught a glimpse of something akin to relief in her gaze before she swiftly averted her gaze and turned on her heels to peer out the window by him.

Burnout raised an eyebrow a smirk forming in his face despite the pain he felt, "Heh it's really nice to see you too Shadow..."

He was pretty familiar with her ways, but that response coming from her was much harsher than usual. But...he probably deserved it, all things considered.

"You should get some more sleep." She scolded tactlessly without giving him as much as a second glance.

Burnout stared at her back. She was stiff, and her voice seem to shake. He thought about her pleadings when he had went out at the battlefield. He wanted to ask how she got out and got into battle in the first place. He wanted to but...
