Chapter Eleven
The next morning was extremely awkward. Everyone was gathered around the lake waiting for Sally to pair us up. We were going canoeing. I hate canoeing so much!! Ugh! Anyway.. Sally soon arrived with life jackets and told us to all stand in a line so she could pair us up. We all got excited until she told us we had to be put in boy, girl form. Me and the girls were all together giving Zayn the most evilest looks EVER!! The strange thing is, he looked confused,as if he didn't know what had happened last night. We were all talking about Zayn until we heard Megan's name being called. We all gasped when we all heard who Megan was being paired with...... It was Zayn! We were all in disbelief after what we had all just heard. Megan's face went pale as a ghost and she started to walk reluctantly towards Zayn. He didn't look so bothered though, I almost thought there was a smile on his face!! Sasha then told us all that we need to keep an eye out for Megan on this canoeing trip. I mean, Zayn can be dangerous. We all know what he is capable of.
I was the last one standing. The only person left to be paired with was Cooper Daniels, the most nerdiest boy in the planet!! He was wearing a yellow t shirt with blue overalls, not to mention the embarrassing red bow tie that he seemed so proud about. Also, he had big, thick brown bushy hair and huge glasses that covered his face. He gave me the cheesiest smile when he heard that we were going to be teamed together. I almost felt bad for sighing.. Sally soon set us off on the canoeing trip. Sally handed out the life jackets. I looked over at Megan to see her struggle with the clasp of the jacket. Zayn reached out to help her, but she flinched away.
"What do you think you are doing, get off me!!" Megan said while gritting her teeth in temper. Zayn looked disheveled. I started to get a bit concerned with the fact that Zayn was going to be that close to her throughout the trip.
"I was only trying to help," Zayn said quietly.
"Well ya know what, I don't need your help. I am perectly capable on my own thank you very much! " Megan said finally clipping the clasp together so she was secure. Sally then put us in our canoes. She set me and geeky boy off first. He was all chatty, but I told him to shut up because I was trying to eaves drop on what looked like Zayn trying to have a decent conversation with Megan. I looked around to see Sasha and Aimee leaning over to their boat, they must've had the same idea.
"Do you want to take a break from paddling?" Zayn asked Megan.
"Don't talk to me" Megan said abruptly. Zayn looked innocent and confused.
"What's wrong, what have I done? I thought we were friends!" Zayn said getting all sympathetic.
"Yes Zayn, 'were' friends. Now just leave me alone. I hate you! I never wanted to be paired up with you in the first place, not to mention you pushing Sasha over the other night!" Megan said getting frustrated. I was starting to get a bit worried over Megan's safety, Zayn could have a violent outburst at any minute!
"What are you talking about, I didn't push Sasha over at all. You are speaking nonsense.." Zayn said defending himself but we all knew the truth.
"Isn't the weather lovely this time of year, you don't see many frogs about as it is bad for its habitat. I have a great story about frogs!! My nanny Patricia was about to bite into her egg and pickle sandwich when all of a sudden she then realised that inside the sandwich was a--" Cooper said getting all excited but I soon cut him off sharply and said
"Be quiet will you, I am trying to listen". But Cooper started to get all excited again and said
"Yes, the noise of the birds singing in the morning is the most peaceful and calm thing on the planet earth. What's your favourite bird sound? I bet it's a sparrow!!". He was starting to really get on my nerves!! I fancied pushing him in the canal. Just as I was imagining the splash from pushing him in, I heard the exact sound coming from behind me. I turned to see Megan splashing around in the water gasping for air. I screamed Megan's name at the top of my voice and Sasha, Aimee and I scrambled towards her. We could only control one half of the boat. Cooper was too busy peering and talking to what he thought was me but was really himself about the different shades of blue the sky changes throughout the day. I looked at Sasha and Aimee and we all had the same grim expression all over our faces. Megan hated the water. Especially after the accident that happened when she was little when her stupid step father pushed her in the water when she couldn't swim. She still can't, she hasn't been in the water since that day. And now she was bearly breathing.
