Sometimes he finds himself thinking about her. Not all the time, but his mind will often drift towards her at some point in the day. Sometimes when he's skating with Lou, or spray painting a wall in an abandoned alleyway. Sometimes when he's smoking a bowl with Lou and their other Californian friends, and sometimes he thinks about her right before he goes to sleep at night.
But it's not like she's always on his mind-how creepy would that sound? It's just, ever since he'd ran into her that day things have been different. He'd been eyeing her for a while now. He liked the way her lips would curve into that sweet smile of hers, or the way her long, blonde hair would sway in the summer wind. And that's why he did it, really.
That's why he'd always skate near her, making sure she at least got a glimpse of him when he passed by. That's why he'd beg Louis to go the same routes as their skateboards glided across the warm concrete even though Louis got bored with taking the same ways every other day. But Zayn couldn't help it. He liked to see Sky smile.
And once he'd spotted her the other day-unintentionally this time-he couldn't just leave. And this time Louis hadn't even questioned his motives, for he knew exactly why.
Louis knew that he'd seen her and Louis knew that he wouldn't just let this go. So he followed right behind Zayn, kick pushing until they were crashing, literally, into the girl with the nice smile.
And Louis knew. He knew all along.
And now here Zayn was, standing in the middle of an isle in a store he'd come to quite often. But for other reasons like food and stuff. Not for packages of film made especially for Polaroid cameras. But he was and he wasn't sure what motivated him to do it in the first place, but it didn't matter now. For he was already picking up a pack and heading towards the front to go purchase them.
The whole time Zayn had been in the store (he'd spent a good fifteen minutes just staring at the wall of camera accessories), Louis was right there behind him covering his mouth to stop his snickers from flowing from his lips and filling up the room.
"Shut up, Lou," Zayn groaned, but couldn't help the flow of red that crept up his neck and settled into his cheeks, warming up his face. But that didn't stop Louis from teasing him a bit further.
"Such a sap," Louis chuckled underneath his breath as he followed in tow behind Zayn until they reached the self-checkout line.
Zayn may have shook his head at his best mate's accusations, but somewhere deep down inside him he knew it was the truth. He couldn't help it, really. He was a sucker when it came to these kinds of things. And he knew he'd be a sucker forever when it came to Sky's honey eyes and her golden smile.
***
They're going to wait here. After Zayn had insisted they did to Louis (who wasn't exactly having it) and practically-almost-got down on both knees to beg and bribe until Louis finally gave in, he had. But under one condition: Zayn had to ask Sky on a date.
"M'not doing it, mate," he huffed under his breath. Sure he'd love to get to spend time with Sky and get to know her and all, but it seemed a little too soon for him. He'd barely met her the other day and now he was supposed to ask her on a date? No, he wasn't up for it. Not now, at least.
"Then we're leaving," Louis stated, setting his jaw. That's how Zayn knew it was final. But not today. He couldn't do it today.
"Okay-wait, just let me, like, wait a while, yeah?"
"You've not got all your life, Zayn. For all you know she could be wasting her time with some other bloke while you're sitting here nearly pissing yourself over this."
