The car bumped along the dirt road as Sweet Caroline played on the radio. Young Angie and the rest of the Whittier family were on the way to their favorite campsite, a summer tradition that could not be broken under any circumstances. The trees zoomed by the window in streaks of vibrant color, the green leaves seeming to smile at everyone who passed. The sun gently shone down, being kind enough to not beat on them on a day like today. Even the mysterious, unpaved detour the car was driving down couldn't put Angie off on such a beautiful afternoon.

Angie beamed and looked at her family. Her dad, Jonathan Whittier, was a mirror image of his daughter, his impossibly curly red hair and twinkling sky-blue eyes reflecting Angie's. In contrast, her mom Kelly most resembled Angie's older brother Andrew, with short brown hair and chocolatey brown eyes.

They didn't notice the curious little deer in the road until the last second, and everything happened in a flash. And the flash turned black.

A piercing light came into view and Angie stirred. The onslaught of colors and light that came into view couldn't be compared to the worst headache imaginable. The young girl groaned in pain and clutched her head. "Wh-what's happening...to me?" she whimpered.

"Just calm down," said the voice of a doctor, sounding distant and echoey, "Just relax."

Something sharp poked into Angie's arm, and she was out again.
