Loony Lettie (An Oliver Twist Fanfic)

Make Way!

*Nancy's POV*

Lettie was unconscious soon after I started to carry her home.

I ran in the house.

"Make way! Make way! Sick child coming through!"

I ran to her bed and laid her down gently.

"Get me some cold water!"

"What's the matter Nancy?" Fagin asked.

"Lettie's sick! Now get me a bowl of cold water and a clean rag!"

Fagin ran to fetch them. The children walked in.

"What's wrong with Lettie?" Oliver asked.

"She's very sick, help me Oliver."

We got her under the covers, as comfortable as possible. I heard Fagin's loud footsteps.

"Boys, get out of the way!" 

The boys left but Oliver as Fagin walked in with the big bowl and a rag.

"Thank you Fagin."

"No problem."

Bill ran in.

"What's the matter?"

"Lettie's sick, she has a bad fever."

"Oh no," Bill said covering his mouth.

"What!?"

"We went to Barkwell but we had to leave because there was a plague and the town was quarantined! Fever is a onset!"

"Oh no!" Oliver said.

"It could be just a fever!" Fagin said.

"Yeah, he's right, we got out undetected, nobody touched us."

"Sickness is in the air too boy, remember that," Bill said.

"We don't know for sure if she did catch that plague or just a fever, we'll keep an eye on her," I said as I placed the drenched rag on Lettie's forehead.
