[mirror of erised: fifth year]

HARRY'S POV

Today is the third day of my fifth year at Hogwarts, and I'm ecstatic to be here instead of with the Dursleys. This castle has always been my home a million times more than the place where my sad excuse for an aunt and uncle live.
Added to that, my only real friends that I've ever made, I met here. Dudley was always my enemy until I was eleven, but when I arrived at Hogwarts I met another person to add to that list.

I looked from my lunch at the Gryffindor table, over to the Slytherin table. Immediately my eyes met those of a tall, blonde boy. It appeared this boy, Draco Malfoy, had already been staring at me. My enemy. Lately this thought had been confusing me. The slight smile on his lips quickly changed to a sneer and then he said something to Blaise, most likely a rude remark relating to me. I furrowed my eyebrows, and got up from the table.

"Where are you going? Dessert hasn't even appeared yet," Ron told me, taking another bite of his chicken.

Hermione rolled her eyes at him, and I replied, "Not hungry."

I sent another glance over to the Slytherin table. His silvery eyes were on me again. I held his gaze for a moment, then I told my friends goodbye and marched out of the great hall.

I had gone up to the Gryffindor tower and was on my way to the defence against the dark arts classroom, when I heard someone behind me.

"Where are you going, Potter?"

The familiar voice made a shiver run down my back, but it was a nice feeling. This confused me, which only spiked my anger.

I spun around and glared at him, "I'm just going to class Malfoy, nothing to see here."

His eyes almost seemed to be roaming my body, as if he doubted there was nothing to see. Then it was over so fast I thought I must have been seeing things.

"Really?" He sneered, "How come you left so early?"

I realized I wasn't quite sure of the answer to this, so I just turned around and continued walking.

"You know Potter, it's a lot more suspicious when you don't answer!"

I clenched my fists and shoved open the nearest door, shouting over my shoulder, "It's none of your business, Malfoy!"

Soon after he followed me in, seeming like he was about to respond, but then he shut his mouth. He waited a few moments and then said, "What are you looking at, Potter?"

In front of me, leaning against the wall and covered in dust, was the Mirror of Erised. I had forgotten all about it since my first year, when I saw me standing with all of my family as I looked at it. The image I saw before me now was very different from the one I saw years ago. It was something I never would have expected to show up in the mirror as my deepest desire, and this is why I went silent. I was completely and utterly shocked.

Instead of seeing me with my family, the mirror's glassy surface showed me and Malfoy. How could he possibly be my heart's deepest desire? I looked at the real life Malfoy, studying him. Suddenly I had all these butterflies, and I felt the chills all over again. I was now noticing his beautiful light hair, and the specks of silver in his grey eyes, and the softness of his pale pink lips.

He huffed and stormed past me to stand in front of the mirror. "I don't know what you were looking at so much Potter, this mirror is completely normal! I just see you and me."

I was so shocked at his words I stumbled and fell onto the ground. I sat there, numbly, and stared into space, trying to decide if I'd heard him wrong.

Suddenly I realized he had knelt down in front of me.

"Harry! Are you alright? What happened?"

Harry.. he called me Harry. Draco called me Harry. I just called him Draco!

"Draco, you saw us in the mirror?" I asked.

He nodded, "Yeah, why wouldn't I?"

Then I explained to him exactly what happened in my first year with the mirror and what Professor Dumbledore had told me.

"So.. what did you see?" He asked me.

"I saw the same thing.."

He smiled slightly, and traced his fingertips across my cheek. I sat still and stared into his eyes. Then I glanced down at his soft lips. He noticed this and cupped my face lightly in his hand, leaning closer and closer. Our lips brushed against each other, and then started moving perfectly in sync. I moved closer to him, and my arms went onto his shoulders so my hands could play with the hair on the back of his head.

Suddenly the bell rang, signalling that our next subject would be starting in five minutes. We broke apart and caught our breaths, smiling at each other.

Draco stood up and held out his hand, I grabbed it and he pulled me up. He kissed me on the cheek.

"Let's go to class, Potter."

As we left the room, right before we shut the door, I stole one last glance at the mirror and smiled.
