[A\N - Everything will be in Logan's prov until told otherwise. I hope you enjoy!]
"You got all of your things, love?" My Aunt asked me as I put my bag in her car. I didn't say anything. She sighed. "Well then... Get in the car, okay? I promise that every break you can stay at my place."
I get in the car. "Thanks for everything Aunt Cass." We begun driving towards my new life. The silence is suffocating.
"You know, I'm sure it wouldn't be that bad... Maybe you'll even find a girlfriend, or a boyfriend. Or make great friends!" I smiled at her optimism.
"I only need you as my friend, Aunt Cass. I don't need people my age. They disappoint one anyway." I wish she could've adopted me, but because of her job were she is almost never at home, the judge didn't allow it.
All to soon we arrived at our destination. The whole place is fenced off with extremely high fencing. Welp, there goes my escape plan. As we parked inside, the person that opened the doors for us came walking our way. The place oddly looked pretty much alive. It looks more like a hostel than an orphanage.
"Greetings. I'm Dexter Dinkley, first in command here. You must be Logan." Did I get sent to an army school by mistake? Who says that?
"Salutations." I said as we shook hands. Something was off about him. He gave me this eerie feeling... He said that he'll give Aunt Cass all the information of this place as she needed, and had a guide for me waiting inside. Aunt Cass and I said our goodbyes and I slowly walked up towards the big three story structure's front door.
As I entered I saw a boy about my age, swiftly standing up from the hallway bench and run up towards me. "Hello! I'm Bubbles!" He extended his hand. I carefully shook it.
"Salutations, I'm Logan." I said just as our handshake ended.
"Oh. Very big word but okay!" Just as I was about to explain what it ment, he starts talking again. "You'll be in my 'house' and will be sharing a room with me! I don't know who else will be sharing with us... I forgot to look on the board for that too. But don't fret! Our house...mother..." He says mother in an irritated tone, but then giggles "Their awesome!"
"Is your name truly Bubbles?" I asked, still confused over it. I mean, who names their child Bubbles?
His bright smile faltered. "It's my nickname. Everyone here is called by their nickname. My real name is Patton, but please call me Bubbles. You ready for the tour?" His smile reappeared.
"Why is your nicknames Bubbles?" I asked curiously.
"Um... Word of advise, Logan... Don't ask people what their nickname means. They'll tell you if they please to. Or somebody else tells you." He started walking down the hall. I followed. "Okay so, the bottom floor is mostly the aria everyone is at. Like the food court is here, a few offices, Oh! And there are three other rooms down here too! They are some tipe of hall for something, like there's the study hall, but most study in their rooms. There is a...games hall...I think that's what it's called... If we have a movie night or games night, it will be in there. The third hall is forbidden for us since it's the food court for the young children." He came to a stop. We stopped infront of green double doors. "This is the food court. The hallway from here to your right, is where the girls and their 'houses' are, the pink stairs take you to them. On your left, the boys take the blue stairs-"
"What about those whom are neither male nor female?" I asked him.
"Well," his smile seems to dramatically increase. "Mr Dinkley is a strong believer that there are only two genders, everyone else though, knows that's not true. That's like a rule hidden from Mr Dinkley. We can talk about sexualities and genders without judgment... But not when Mr Dinkley is around. That's why we have nicknames. It especially helps those who's name is feminine but their male, also the other way around, also for those whom are gender fluid, and many more."
"When was someone going to tell me this?" I asked. "If I didn't ask, I wouldn't have had known." He looked at the blue staircase.
"Well our house...mother...would have told you. Not everyone just excepts it." We begun to climb the stairs.
"Why do you keep on saying house mother like your spitting fire?"
He stopped. "Mr Dinkley keeps calling them that, but they're not a she. We call them Talyn. Oh! And the office with the blue star printed on it is Joan's. They also use they\them pronouns and is technically in charge of us older boys. Oh my stars! I never asked what your pronouns are!" He suddenly exclaimed. He covered his mouth with his hands, "I'm soooo sorry!" He mumbled through his hands.
"It's fine. I use he\him. And you?" I mentally scold myself for not asking Bubbles as well.
He sighed and we started walking up the stairs again. "The same as you." I suddenly notice the lack of people.
"Where is everyone?" I ask.
"School. Mr Dinkley asked me to stay so that I could show you around." We arrived on the third floor. "Our house is 3-1. The first room on the third floor." He opened the first room's door to reveal a small but comfy common room.
