Moyinoluwa Age 11.
They say the first day of secondary school is always fun because of the new people you get to meet and the friends you get to make but with the looks I'm getting right now, I don't think it's true.
The beginning of this day started off with me waking up late, so I had to rush with everything. Thank God I ironed my uniform last night because wearing rumpled clothes are the worst.
My mom yelled for me to go to the car. I kissed my dad goodbye, got into the car and we were off. On getting to the main road, there was traffic and the traffic in Lagos is crazy. You can be on the same spot for 20 minutes.
We eventually got to school at 8:20 but school starts at 8:00. Entering my new school, Chapel Hill College, I checked the time table that was given to me and saw that I was having Mathematics. Ugh.
I asked for directions to the class from someone and thanked the person. When I got to the door of the class, JSS1 was on top of it. I could see the teacher writing on the board already. I inhaled deeply then exhaled. I was too scared to knock but I gathered up courage and knocked.
I hear a loud come in and opened the door. "Good morning sir." I greeted the teacher.
"Good morning to you too. What's your name." The man asked me.
I hated this question "Moyinoluwa Adams sir."
"Okay, well I'm Mr Adebayo. Moyin do you know what time it is?"
I did but decided not to say it "I'm sorry sir, I don't know the time" I bowed my head.
He sighed "The time is 8:30 Moyin. I'm only going to spare you because this is your first day. Now go and occupy one of the seats."
"Thank you sir." As I looked for seats, I could feel the eyes of the students on me. I even saw one of them whisper to her seat partner.
A girl patted her seat for me to sit on and I was thankful "Thank you." I told the girl.
"No problem. I guessed you wouldn't want to sit with any of them with the way they were staring at you. My name is Mary Adeoye by the way." She told me.
I smiled "I'm Moyin and you probably know that already." She smiled back at me and we continued listening to the teacher.

During short break, Mary and I went to the cafeteria to get something to eat. We joined the queue, Mary was in front of me.
Suddenly, I heard the person at my back whispering to another person " look how big she is, I can't even see my front."
The other person laughed" Abi, she's even bigger than the both of us combined together." They continued laughing.
I tried to ignore them but I couldn't . They continued talking till I left the queue. I looked back at them and I saw they were whispering to other girls and they all started laughing. I ran back to my class and went to my seat.
I placed my hands on the table and rested my head on it. Their faces and how they were laughing at me came back to my head, before I knew it tears were streaming down my face. I felt a tap on my shoulder. I quickly wiped my eyes, looked up and saw Mary.
" Are you okay? I was calling you but you didn't answer. " Mary asked me.
"I'm okay, it's okay, don't worry about me." I sniffed.
"Just forget them, they are not worth it. Won o gbadun (they are not serious). "
" I know but it's been like this all my life, and I'm fed up. O ti su mi (I'm tired). " I cried.
"If you don't mind I'll help you fight them. We can be best friends." Mary told me.
"Are you serious? Cause you're the first person to tell me that." I don't know why I asked, someone finally wants to be my friend and I'm asking her questions. Ugh, ki lon se mi? (what's wrong with me) .
"Yes, I'm serious. We can be best friends." She smiled at me.
"Yes, we can be best friends, yes." I grinned and she grinned back.
And that was the beginning of a new friendship.
