It had been 3 days at Maisy's aunts house and she already couldn't take it. Was it wrong to beg her mum to leave or even run away? There was nothing to do and although Mai felt bad admitting it, all Emma did was judge her. Constantly. There weren't even any nice kids in the area to hang out with. Her friends probably weren't thinking too hard about her but it was hell without them. Maisy didn't even mind staying for a few days but there was no explanation and the experience was getting worse by the second. Fuck it. "mom?" she called from her tiny room upstairs "what?" "can you come here for a sec? I need to ask you something?" "fine." her mom came upstairs and stood in the doorway. Maisy motioned for her to sit on the bed as she pushed the door closed. "why am I really here? And don't say its for a break." "your dad is in Derry. I've seen him there" "he's not my dad, mom." "I know, sorry. I just wanna keep you away for a bit." "mom I know you just wanna keep me safe but I can't bear staying here for 2 weeks." "if I take you home you can't go out with your friends for ages. Lock all of the doors and call me before you go anywhere. I have to get my work done" it was extremely surprising that she was actually considering taking her home. Its possible that her mom was as miserable as Maisy was. "I promise."
Before she knew it, Mai was all packed up and waiting in the car for her mom to drive her back. The drive was a lot more pleasant as she had something to look forward to. She midday sun was beaming through the car windows into their eyes. Maisy reached up to take the screen down to block the sun out, however this was a failed attempt as she was much too short. She didn't mind, though. The sun put her in a good mood.
Soon enough they were at home. Maisy swung her feet out of the car and gently slammed the soor shut. She proceeded to take her bags out of the car and run them upstairs and then ran back down to kiss her mom goodbye. She had to leave quickly to avoid rush hour. "remember the rules" her mom said before leaving again.
Maisy was about to walk back inside before a stampede of kids came running out of the Uris' house. Before fully processing everything, Maisy was pulled onto the floor in a hug from Beverly and then joined by all the losers. "YOU'RE LIKE 3 WEEKS EARLY!" screamed Richie from the top of the pile. Everyone rolled off of each other and allowed Maisy to finally explain herself. "mom said we were leaving for a break but I asked her to be honest and she said that my dad is in town. You don't know what happened with him but it means that I'm not allowed to go out with you guys for like 2 weeks." "what the hell did he do for you to be on house arrest?" Eddie said what they were all thinking. "nothing that concerns you but if you guys really think that I'm staying in the house for that long you are very wrong." Maisy smirked, locked the house and the club immediately made plans to go get ice cream.
