My spacecraft landed at the science lab. My family and friends gathered around my spacecraft cheering. I had finally completed a mission! Everyone was so excited for me. Me on the other hand, not so much. Yes, I had completed my first mission, but I didn’t feel good about it. I left behind someone who I truly loved, and I was probably never going to see him again. I put on my best fake smile and greeted all of my family and friends. They told me they had organized a party for me tonight, where they would help me find a husband. Wait, what! Oh no, I totally forgot about the marriage rule. We have to be married by age 237 or our family will be cursed forever. Believe me, it’s true. I've seen the curse in action, and it’s not a pleasant thing. I felt sick. I couldn’t even think about moving on at this point. Now my family’s trying to find me a husband! “Zandriana? Zandriana! Are you okay?” my friend, Janeeka, was waving her hand in front of my eyes. I snapped out of it. “Uh, yea. I’m fine.” I lied. By the look on her face I knew she didn’t believe me, but she moved on. They took me to my house and started getting me ready for the party. They took off my wig and my makeup, then they helped me choose a dress. I wasn’t really paying attention to what was going on. I was off in my own little world, daydreaming about John. I kept thinking of the look on his face when I left. That look ripped my heart apart. My mom and friend were shaking their heads at me. They were trying to talk to me but I wasn’t listening. They continued to get me ready then we headed to the ballroom. Yes, my house has its own ballroom. I was dressed in a way to poofy dark blue strapless dress with some sparkly beading on the top and on the side of the dress. It was actually a pretty dress. We entered the ballroom. It was decorated with dark blue and white streamers (my favourite colours). It also had these weird coloured paper lanterns hanging from the ceiling. There were lots of tables scattered around the room. The place looked pretty nice. Everyone started cheering as I entered the room. I put a smile on my face. It wasn’t exactly a fake smile, but I wasn’t super happy. I walked around and talked to people. Everyone I talked to congratulated me. I have to admit I felt pretty special. My mother brought me to a big table at the front of the room and sat me down. She took her seat to my right, and Janeeka took the seat to my left. All of the guests took their seats. My father, who was sitting beside my mother, stood up and walked to the podium that was set up beside our table. He tapped the microphone. “Welcome everyone! I thank you all for coming and celebrating this very special occasion with us. My only daughter has finally completed a mission!” Everyone started cheering. I smiled. My dad continued, “I have a speech prepared.” He cleared his throat. “Ever since Zandriana first became an agent, I had dreamed of the day she completed her first mission. When she finally got put on a mission, I was so happy. My daughter was getting the opportunity to accomplish something! After she had failed that mission, I wasn’t disappointed. I knew one day she would complete a mission. What I didn’t know was that it would take her 53 tries, but she did it!” he lifted his drink into the air. “Here’s to my wonderful daughter, Zandriana! Congratulations honey!” Everyone lifted their glasses and cheered. Janeeka and my mom put their arms around me. A couple of other people had speeches as well. Janeeka was the last one to give a speech. She skipped up to the podium. She was wearing a short pink, flowing dress. She had a pink bow headband on her bald head. Her big blue eyes were sparkling. “Hey everyone.” People cheered. “I just wanted to congratulate my best friend. She means the world to me and I couldn’t live without her. I'm so proud of her! So yea, I just wanted to say, CONGRATULATIONS ZANDRIANA!” Janeeka did a little bow and ran to her seat. I hugged her. “Thanks.” I said. The waiters came out and served dinner. Everyone quickly ate, they were excited for the ‘husband auditions’ as I call it. I wasn’t so excited. I ate really slowly. I wasn’t hungry anymore. The waiters came back and cleared everyone’s plates, and then they came and moved the tables to the sides of the room, except for one table that was right in front of my table. 10 men lined up behind the table. The auditions begin.
