The Kiss of Death

Chapter 5 -L's suspicions and name reviled.

Light's pov.

I was so glad to get Misa out of my house and away from my girlfriend. I didn't like the vibe Misa gave off as she looked over my girlfriend. I also didn't like that Misa wanted me to be her boyfriend even after my telling her I was with Max. "Light will Misa be over often?" Max asks in a soft tone and I wasn't sure if she was jealous or if it was something else. "I hope not. It was our first meet up and from now on I will try meeting up with her at the school." I say with a small chuckle as I look over Max. Max's face was a light red and she wasn't looking at me. "Something wrong Max?" I ask as I walk over to her and take both her hands in mine. "Nothing. Sorry I was just thinking that I know her from somewhere." Max says as she tries to pull a hands free from my hold. "Really? I think she is a singer. But something else is bugging you as well right?" I say as I let her left hand go and gently cup her check forcing her to look into my eyes. They held so much fear and uncertinty as she looks up at me.

"Yeah. Um I am thinking about heading home in a few months. I want to go see my family on the....." Max says but her voice cracks and gets stuck as if she can't bring herself to say what was bugging her. "On the what?" I ask and she closes her eyes before taking a few more deep breaths. "On the aniverry of their death." She finally says and I pull her closer to me in a tight hug. "You should go see them. But I don't want you to go alone." I say and she stiffens a little before relaxing a little. She opens her eyes and looks up at me with sad eyes. "What do you mean?" She asks and I give a small sigh before kissing the top of her head. "I mean I want to go with you." I say and she gives a small sigh before nodding her head a few times. "We should talk to your dad about that and L might need to know." Max says before she pulls away from me. I frown a little not liking that she was even sugesting this. "I have no problem talking to my dad about it but do we really need to tell L I am going with you. All he needs to know is that your going home for a week before coming back." I say trying to talk her into not letting L know I was going with her plus that would mean a week where Kira wasn't killing anyone.

"Let me think about it." Max says before she lets me pull her over to my bed and force her to sit down. "Fine think about it for tonight. How about we go get some tea before bed?" I say and she nods her head then following me down to the kitchen. Mom smiles at us as when we walk in and Max gives her a small smile before glancing over at me. "Mom would you mind making us some tea?" I ask as I pull out a chair for Max to sit in. Max sighs before she takes the seat "I can if you use proper maners." She says and I shake my head a little. "Would you please make us some tea Mrs. Yagami?" Max ask her as she glance up at her and she smiles kindly at Max. "Only because you asked nicely Max." She says before walking over to Max and patting the top of her head then walking over to the tea kettle to get it warm. I sit next to Max before giving her a wide smile. "Mom do you think you or dad would have a problem with me going to America for a week?" I ask making my mom pause in what she was doing before looking over at us. "Why would you like to go there Light?" She asks and I feel Max stiffen in the chair next to me.

"Well I....um....Mom I was just thinking about going there for a week." I say and bite the inside of my check. "Haha Light you clamed up." Ryuk says from behind me and I was a little annoyed by him chiming in now of all times. "Well I will talk to your father about it and if he thinks it is a good idea." Mom says before she sets a cup of tea infront of both Max and I. Max mumbles out a thank you before she starts to drink her tea and once she was done leaves me alone with my mom saying she was heading to bed. The next morning I get up early and was about to knock on Max's door when I hear her voice on the other side. "Thank you for understanding L. I will only be gone for a week. No I don't want Light to know I talked to you and yes I will be telling Mr. Yagami about where I am going." Max says and I feel my chest hurt a little at the thought of Max not wanting me to know she was going back to America.
