Chapter Two

The world spun dizzy circles before my eyes. Trying to get a firm step was impossible as if the ground was in constant motion and walls were sprouting out beside me. When I fell, there was nothing to fall on beside an infinite of nothing and there I was again, upright again in another dimension. There seemed to be a whirl pool that dragged my feet somewhere to my left, threatening to pull me into a deeper state of empty. It was pointless to continue moving further away but I couldn't control my feet to stop moving.

Breathing was like filling holy balloons up with air, becoming deflated again when the air escaped through the holes. And seeing was like having sand kicked in your eyes and everything seemed like a shade of white having no depth or perception. My vision blurred and blotches came into sight, I instantly recognized the type of dream I was having. The dream that was not a dream at all.

It was like this so often, the voice in the back of my head screaming to wake up. Although I couldn't, not at least till the demon inside me was satisfied. The world around me was taking shape but nothing was in focus as I tried to decipher my surroundings. I could work out a face here or there, shouting my mental thoughts to run at them. Knowing that on the outside I would have had the most wicked grin, as if happy to take the pleasure of killing my helpless victims.

Slowly again, the world began to spin. The was a faint voice calling my name, my mother perhaps and I lay horizontal, not standing upright. My body spasming as it tried to break free from the barriers keeping me firm to the surface I lay on. Again, my name called louder and my vision clicked into focus.

It was the tall woman again, her face a little worried and irritated. Without my permission my head lashed forward and my jaw opened and clicked shut. As if to bite her. She jerked backward with an expression of disgust written plain on her face. Concentrating, I closed my eyes and counted to ten, relaxing my brain and muscles.

I didn't want to open my eyes again. I would have to face the annoyance of the try-hard again. When I opened them again, the women stood against the wall. Her posture giving away the fact that she thought she was of higher value than everyone else. Particularly me, strapped up and savage with no traces of a human soul.

Her high heeled shoes closed the distance.

"Good afternoon, Alexei Shaide." Shaide, had she got the wrong person? What a screw up that would be, never mind my failing attempts of escape.

She had a way of talking so her lips always covered her teeth. I feared what might be behind the plush red lips. Her voice was dark and confident, she looked like she would have been a Goth in her younger years. Although she did only look around thirty.

I'm guessing the look on my face must have been obvious, but she silenced me before I could correct her.

"My name is Evangeline Cherith and I will force the questions I am looking for out of you. Is that understood?" She paused and one corner of her mouth turned up in a menacing half smile, "Don't bother lying..."

What could I lie about? I had no secrets which they didn't already know. Unless they wanted me to tell them about my personal life, which mattered to no one. I looked down at my body. They had taken my clothes and put me in an emerald green jumpsuit looking thing. Around my arms and legs were leather straps securing me to the cold metal bed, which was understandable as I lashed out and attacked everything in my path while sleeping. I could feel my hair, wet with sweat stuck to my forehead where it tickled my temples. In the back of my head, I felt the pain from whatever knocked me unconscious.
