Max is the new guy at school. He likes keeping his business to himself and avoids getting too close to people - not without reason.
Little did he know, that on the first day in his new school, he would attract the attention of the most popular guy...
He wasn't a morning person to begin with, but having slept only for a couple of hours, waking up late, skipping his breakfast and rushing to school... And to top it all, today was his first day at the new school.
He wasn't very upset when his mother announced that they were moving, because his dad had gotten a better job offer. But when his parents had told him where (the first warning sign was that the town name said nothing) and he later tried to Google it (like any sane and not completely illiterate person would do nowadays), Max found out that it was a little town in the middle of a fucking nowhere, and he was beyond pissed. Not to mention, it was the middle of the school year!
They arrived on Sunday evening. The little town was already dark, so he couldn't see much. He wasn't used to little towns, and the lack of city lights made him a bit uncomfortable. After helping to move boxes inside, Max was completely drained, so he had no mental or physical power to unpack, and it was already 2 am. He just went to bed straight away. When he woke up, there were stacks of boxes everywhere. What kind of family moved into a new house in the middle of the night...
When the morning crept in, Max was even more groggy. His alarm clock didn't go off, he couldn't find his clothes, and his parents were late. In the rush, they hastily dropped Max and his younger brother Luke at the school gate and rushed off. Above all, Max was hoping that they wouldn't have PE lessons today, as he was wearing two mismatching socks. Perhaps, one of those socks wasn't even male his, as it was bright pink...
"Fucking unbelievable" muttered Luke, watching their parents car quickly diminishing down the road. They were real brothers - not only looking alike but also both swearing like a truck drivers too.
"Do you have to speak like a fucking uneducated swine all the time..?" asked Max, just to realise that he himself had sworn without even realising it.
Luke just raised his eyebrow, with a mocking smirk on his face reading nothing other than "Really, bro..?".
Max just laughed and waved his hand. He was really happy to have Luke as his brother. Other siblings just fight all the time. But Luke and Max were always a team. In all their lives they didn't have a single fight. Well, not a serious one...
They went straight to the Principles' office, grabbed their schedules, and after saying their short goodbyes, Luke went to his first lesson, English. Max....well with his luck, what else he could possibly have for the first lesson on the first day of his new school? Of course, it had to be history...
Max hated history with a passion. In his opinion, it was boring, stretched, overrated and completely unnecessary. He had no idea how the date of the first printing machine invented could help him later in his life. Instead of teaching them how to do taxes, and other important things, the education system prioritized how many wives had Henry the VII and the dates, when 2 dogs went to space.
Already in a poor mood, Max turned the corner and walked straight into the brick wall. At that's what it felt like. He would have landed on his ass were it not for the big strong hands which caught him.
He was met with two incredibly blue eyes, watching him curiously. Max gazed at the owner of those eyes; a tall boy, standing in front of him. He felt a bit sore from the impact, despite being caught.
The tall boy had wavy raven-black hair, long at the front with undershave at the sides and ocean blue eyes. He was muscular, but more on the athletic side. The boy was wearing black ripped jeans, a white t-shirt, and a varsity jacket. Atop his head sat a baseball cap turned backwards. Max with his 5'7 and small lean build looked like a kindergartener compared to the towering boy in front of him.
"Typical douchebag", thought Max to himself, taking notice to keep his thoughts to himself. He knew better, then to start trouble on his first day.
"Watch where you're going, little girl" one of the boys, standing behind the tall blue-eyed boy, snickered.
Max didn't say anything. He rubbed his aching chest, looked coldly at the group in front of him, and just quickly walked past them. His small build, soft facial features, big hazel eyes and chestnut coloured hair, you really could mistake him for a girl sometimes.
When he walked into the class, it was almost full. Most students were in groups chatting before the lesson. It wasn't unexpected, as it was mid-year. Max was sure, that most of those kids had known each other for most of their lives, as was common in little towns. He introduced himself to the teacher. It was middle-aged man, with round glasses and a sharp nose. "Pick whichever seat you want" he motioned to Max.
Max looked around and went for the furthest seat by the window.
He was deep in his thoughts when the loud company crashed through the door, and Max immediately recognized the tall guy from earlier and his friends.
"Oh, nice! The queer is in our class too!" yelled the guy from his gang, as his friends snickered. The tall, dark-haired boy didn't say anything, just glared at his friend with cold blue eyes, and they immediately stopped laughing. He looked at Max and his gaze sent a tingling sensation down Max's spine.
Max turned his head to the window, but immediately turned back again, hearing a shuffling sound right next to him.
He looked and saw that the blue-eyed boy from the corridor had just sat in the seat next to Max. He got comfortable in his seat, then turned to Max, and a wide bright smile appeared on his face.
"Hi", he said. "I am Shawn. And you..?" he smiled once more, showing two rows of pearly white teeth.
For a brief moment, Max couldn't say a word. He was just looking at the handsome boy in front of him and wondering if he was really talking to him. When his eyes looked him up and down, Max could have sworn that Shawn's eyes had turned golden for a brief moment...
