As Noely climbed into the car, her dad turned to her, looking a cross of murderous, confused, and surprised. "Why were you kissing Marcus?" he asked her.
"I don't know," Noely responded breathlessly, "but I liked it."
Grumbling to himself, Noely's dad turned around and looked behind him as he backed out of the driveway.
"Noely, start the GPS.13001 East 17th Place in Aurora, Colorado is the address," her dad said, his voice severe.
"Dad, I think I know the address for the college I'm going to," Noely said, rolling her eyes as she plugged in the GPS and programmed it.
Her dad pulled out of the driveway, speeding down the suburbian streets like a maniac, causing the familiar sensation Noely always got when in the car with her dad, her head slamming back against the seat and her heart beating quickly.
As the streets flew by and grew into farmland, growing into nowhere, she kissed goodbye to high school life and said hello to college.
There was a new freshman in town. And she would start kicking up a storm.

"I... I know the situation isn't ideal, Mr.... O'Brien, right?"
Calix nodded angrily and the dean continued. "But it's the best I could do. It was either sharing a dorm with Ms. Noely or having to take the dorm with the school drug dealer. And I know you care about your studies, so I think Noely is a better fit for you as a roommate. She is a lovely girl, I promise."
Calix's eyes narrowed accusingly, and he hissed, "I don't care if she's 'lovely,' I just want a male roommate. Is that really so hard to get?"
The dean let out an exasperated breath, and replied, "It's either her or the druggie, so I will leave the decision up to you. I hope your boxes are packed, Mr. O'Brien, because the term starts in a few days, and you need to decide on your dorm. Her parents are perfectly okay with a co-ed situation because they trust her greatly. Maybe you should trust her too."
Calix closed his eyes and lifted his hands to squeeze at his temples. He pushed his glasses up his nose and let out a deep breath. "I'll move into the dorm I'll be sharing with Ms. Christers as soon as possible, Mr. Dean."

Calix placed a picture next to his bedside table and smiled big as he placed it, glancing at the grinning faces of him and his brother, arms wrapped around each other's shoulders. He missed his brother a lot, now that they were seperated because of college. His brother was a sophomore at UCLA in Los Angeles and Calix himself was a senior at University of Colorado Denver. A male senior sharing a room with a female freshman. The world just doesn't work that way, does it? Calix asked himself.
Suddenly the door swung open and Calix heard two manly grunts, one sounding young and another sounding old, and soon he heard a girly squeal.
"Hi, Calix! It's so nice to meet you! I'm Noely!" A petite girl with long light tan colored hair stuck her hand out at Calix, and Calix took it with a gentle smile. She was rather adorable, he had to admit.
"So this is the he-she, eh? Kinda effeminate looking features, I'll admit," Mark barked with a harsh laugh.
Noely spun around on the heel of her leopard print bootie and gave Mark the coldest stare Calix had ever seen, and Mark shrunk back lightly.
"I'm... uh, a male," Calix added, quietly.
Noely's dad smiled understandingly. "Of course! You prefer male pronouns and things. That's really great. This will be quite the learning experience for Noely. There's some more things in the van, actually. Marcus and I will go get them. You guys chat it up."
Marcus and Noely's dad walked out the door, and Noely turned to Calix and mumbled, "Okay, so there was a tiny white lie I told my parents about the co-ed thing, because I knew if they found out I was sharing a room with a man they wouldn't let me go here anymore... So I told them you were transsexual. So uh... my parents think you have lady parts. So does Marcus."
Calix scoffed, and then replied, "That is the stupidest lie ever."
"Well, you better get used to it," Noely said, "because to my whole family you're a girl under those hipster glasses, spiked up hair, plaid shirt, and jeans."
