"So, how was the flight?" Sam asks in the car, on the way out of the city and out towards the countryside.
"The flight was okay," Leah says as she looks from the window to her uncle.
"I actually didn't register anything from the trip because I was lost in my own mind. Daddy got a stewardess to look after me but I barely even recognized she was there. I was reading my book and only afterwards did I notice that she had left me a box of tissues. That was about it."
"Good, so basically nothing to be afraid of," Sam says and grins, then turns to her with a frown. "Wait, she left you tissues? Why?"
"The book, uncle Sam," Leah exclaims in frustration. "The terrible book which breaks your heart and recklessly stomps on the remains thirteen chapters in."
"Yeah, I have heard about that book. Wasn't Dean gonna read it too?"
"I don't think I'm gonna let him do it," Leah says, and Sam immediately snickers. "I'm afraid it's gonna crush his heart. Neither me nor dad will know what to do about it since daddy has always been the one to clean up messes like that."
"Yeah, Dean is good at that," Sam says thoughtfully, and his niece looks down at her lap and starts fidgeting anxiously.
"He told you, didn't he?" she asks quietly.
Sam looks away from the road for a moment to look at her, and he nods.
"He did. Are you okay with that?"
"I guess, but then again, you probably needed to know because I'm apparently gonna be living with you for some time?"
Sam nods. "Yeah. But listen up; don't be afraid to talk to me if it's too late to call Dean or Cas, and Madison isn't going to bite either. Just saying. You can wake me if I'm sleeping, too, I won't mind."
"Thanks, uncle Sam," Leah says and smiles faintly, her face pale. It's nice to know there are always people in her corner, although Dean would pick up the phone and come to the rescue if he was laying on his deathbed.
"Don't mention it. Here we are," he says, turning left and coming up a driveway to a little white house. A woman with short, dark brown hair is standing on the porch and she waves and smiles excitedly when they drive up and Sam parks the car. Leah gets out of the car and grabs a bag, walking over to her aunt.
"Hi, aunt Madison," she exclaims and Madison reaches out her arms and embraces her.
"Hey, honey," she grins. "Oh, you've grown so much! You should have told those dads of yours to bring you here more often! Thank goodness they decided to move here where the whole family is! We're gonna see each other so much more," she says and smiles, leading her niece into the hallway. Sam walks in right after them and breathes out.
"Okay. So we've got your room upstairs and I'm gonna put the bags there and then we can eat, and if you don't wanna pack out your stuff yet we can go check out the house, or visit Bobby?"
"Yeah, that sounds alright," Leah smiles and grabs the bag she put down, but Sam shakes his head.
"It's okay, Leah, I'll take it,. Go help Maddy put out the plates or something."
"I've got it," Madison says and smiles. "But we can catch up! Come on, Leah!" She grabs her niece's hand and leads her into the kitchen. Leah hasn't really been here a lot, only a few times with Dean and/or Cas, but she has never been here alone. She takes place on one of the kitchen chairs and Madison sits down on the opposite side of the table.
"So, how was the flight?" her aunt asks, and Leah smiles a little.
"Honestly? So much less awful than I thought it would be. The only time I registered anything was when we changed flights in Chicago. I was lost in my book most of the time."
"That's good," Madison says happily as Sam walks in the doorway and sits down next to Leah, smiling at her.
"I hope you like mushrooms. Madison is obsessed with everything that has to do with mushrooms lately."
His wife waves him off with a chuckle. "Hey, mushrooms are good! Especially on pizza," she exclaims and takes a big bite off her slice. Leah just smiles at their banter.

After the three of them has devoured the huge pizza, Sam takes Leah up to her temporary bedroom. It's the first room when they come up the stairs, and from the window she has a view over the whole countryside, the cozy neighborhood and over a hill about three miles from the house, the city starts. She can hear an ambulance in the distance when Sam opens the window.
There's a single bed by a huge white closet with drawers and a mirror on the front, and Leah smiles ever so slightly when she sees the filled book shelf and the desk.
Sam puts his hands on his sides. He's placed his niece's bags on the floor by her bed and has rolled up his sleeves.
"Do you need my help, or...?"
"Can we do this tonight instead?" she asks quickly. "I'm restless and I kinda wanna see the neighborhood."
"Sure, okay," Sam says and smiles. "But we should call Dean and Cas, or they'll end up worrying that you never made it here alive."
"Yeah, but let's keep them waiting a bit, huh?" Leah says and laughs, her uncle's playful antics have already affected her. "We'll call them from the car."
