After asking herself over and over if it's really the best way out, Leah decides to go forward with the plan she had in mind when she walked out on her dads to go to school. Standing outside the school building, she texts her boyfriend and asks him to come outside, and not one minute later, during a class, he shows up.
"Hey," he says and hugs her immediately, and after a kiss, looks her up and down. "You're not pregnant anymore," he remarks with a frown.
"No, I gave birth yesterday," Leah replies, as if it's the most natural thing in the world to be up and walking a day after giving birth to twins, one of which is not actually human. She decides to keep that to herself, not really interested in discussing it as she needs to get away as soon as possible.
"Well, what happened, how are they-" Lucas starts, but she cuts him off.
"I seriously don't wanna talk about it. I was just wondering if I could borrow your car."
"What do you need my car for?" he asks, his whole posture a question mark. Leah stares at him, trying to keep back the tears. "Please, if you love me, just say yes. I promise I'll get it back in one piece soon. There's just something I need to do."
Lucas looks at his girlfriend with a frown. "Okay, but please tell me your dads know what you're doing and where you're going."
Leah shakes her head in reply and stares down in the ground, wiping her face. "No, they don't, because it's them I'm trying to get away from. I think they've gone crazy, and, Lucas, I'm scared," she sobs. "They keep telling me that I can't give the baby up for adoption because she was born yesterday and she's already walking. I haven't seen her yet and I don't want to. There are just so many bad memories and I can't hang around and see it. I don't know if anyone told you, but I wasn't in on getting pregnant. My ex boyfriend raped me. I can't stay here and look at her every day. I can't be here."
Lucas takes a step forward and pulls his beloved back into his arms so she can cry into his shoulder. "I know, your dads told me. But running away? I don't know if you remember, but my dad is the deputy and both him and your parents are gonna be scouring the country looking for you. I don't think this is such a good idea. If if makes you feel better, maybe you could move in with us for a bit?"
Leah shakes her head against his leather jacket and he sighs.
"At least tell me where you're going."
And after making him promise that he won't tell anyone where she's running off to, Leah throws her bag into the back seat and kisses her boyfriend goodbye, promising her that she'll be back as soon as possible, and as she leaves Sioux Falls in the borrowed car, she tries to drown the sound of her hopeless sobs with music from the radio.

By the time Sam has parked his car by the school and standing by the entry waiting to pick up his niece, Leah has already gotten to La Crosse, Wisconsin. She's turned off the GPS on her phone and took out money with her credit card from an ATM in Sioux Falls before she left so they can't track her. And trusting her boyfriend not to tell anyone where she's going, she feels reassured and free, but also anxious and uneasy.
Sam has been waiting for ten minutes and most of the students have left the building when Lucas comes walking out and is stopped by his girlfriend's uncle.
"Hey," Sam says and gestures at the young man to make him come over. Lucas puts on a brave face for his love and tries to keep it cool.
"Have you seen Leah? Dean and Cas sent me here to pick her up while they deal with the kids."
Lucas shakes his head. "No, actually I haven't seen her since I left her birthday party, but I sent her messages. How is she doing?" he asks, hopeful to find out what she refused to tell him before she took off.
"I don't think she's doing so well," Sam admits. "Just one of the babies survived and Leah won't talk about it. She went off this morning to go to school. You're absolutely sure you haven't seen her around?"
The boy nods while experiencing a sinking feeling in his stomach. He believed her when she said she was going to Detroit to see her mother, but after hearing what happened to one of the babies and thinking about how she must be feeling, he starts to doubt it, but he decides to stick with the lie.
"Yeah, I'm sorry. But she's probably not far. Can you tell her to call me when you find her?"
"Okay, sure," Sam says and pats his shoulder mindlessly before walking back to his car and rushing back to the country house where Cas is, while Dean is with Bobby and Karen, dealing with the baby girl.
"I'm afraid I have some bad news," Sam immediately says, out of breath as he enters the kitchen in the Winchester household where Cas is sitting, trying to drink coffee to calm his nerves, but he ends up dropping the cup again and spills coffee all over the floor. He gets up quickly, having already forgotten about it after hearing Sam's words.
"What do you mean, where's Leah?" Cas asks in panic, already holding his phone in his hand, ready to dial his husband's number for assistance.
"According to her boyfriend, Leah never made it to school this morning. I don't know where she could have gone," he explains.
"Well, she said she was going there," Cas says panicked and calls his husband on speed dial. Sam sighs. "Well, you did have a fight. She's probably off somewhere, cooling off. Maybe she'll be home soon."
Cas ignores Sam's helpfulness and talks to Dean when he answers. "Sam just came home, alone. Leah never went to school this morning. Come home, I'm calling the police." He hangs up and looks at his brother-in-law who's shaking his head in disbelief. "Dude, she's been gone for four hours. That's not nearly enough time to file a missing person's report."
"When she's probably suicidal it is," Cas sneers and dials Jody's number to let her know that the young girl has taken off and needs to be found before something happens to her.
Sam is wiping coffee off the floor when Dean barges in five minutes later. "How did you know Leah wasn't at school?" he asks, and he's as panicked as Cas was. His brother sighs and gets up off his knees with the coffee soaked rag.
"I met Lucas. He told me he hadn't seen her, and he asked me to tell her to call when she came home. She'll come home, Dean, she always does."
"Yeah, when we find her, or someone else does and brings her to a hospital before something happens to her! Dammit, that kid," Dean curses under his breath and punches the wall. Cas, who's pacing around the living room comes back out into the kitchen. "Dean, what do we do? What if she's hurt herself?"
"Have you tried calling her?" Sam asks while throwing the wet rag into the sink and wiping off on his jacket.
Dean throws his hands out in frustration. "I tried calling her the whole way here. I tried tracking her GPS too, but I guess she must have turned it off, she knew I'd do it. Is Jody on her way?" he asks, turned to his husband. Cas nods. "Yeah, she'll probably be here any time."
The men discuss what to do when they find her when a car pulls up outside and Jody and the deputy, Lucas' father, come in the door. Jody puts her hands on her hips. "What's happening now?" she asks.
"Leah's gone again. She said she was going to school this morning, but she never made it there, according to Lucas."
"You let her go to school alone so close to the due date?" the deputy asks and crosses his arms. Jody, Sam, Cas and Dean exchange looks and then turn back to Mark.
"Leah gave birth yesterday. One of the babies didn't make it, and she got upset when we tried to explain why it happened," Dean explains.
"Well, why did it happen? Do you know?"
Sam pipes up with his knowledge. "The baby that survived was a nephilim which sucked out the life force of her brother to survive. And, before you ask," Sam continues, cutting off the only person in the room who wasn't present at the birth, "a nephilim is a product of an angel and a human."
Mark looks from each of them until he gets to Cas. "You're an angel, right?"
"Yeah, but, as you know, the father was Leah's ex boyfriend," Dean tells one of his former hunting buddies.
"Alright, I'm all caught up, thanks. Still doesn't help us, though."
"So she's on the run, confused and scared? How long has she been gone?" Jody asks, crossing her arms.
"Almost five hours," Cas says and looks down in the floor. "She could be anywhere."
"What if she went to a friend's house, seeking refuge there? Maybe at your place?" the sheriff asks, turned to her companion.
Mark shakes his head. "No, my son was at school all day, so she hasn't been there. But maybe he knows something, though," he says and picks up his phone. Sam interrupts him.
"No, I talked to Lucas, and he said he didn't know where she'd gone, he hadn't seen her since he left on her birthday."
"Okay, well, maybe he might know something. I'll call him and we'll check. He can't lie to me," he says, dialing his son's number and puts the phone to his ear. "He would probably be here if he didn't know anything. You know how much he loves her," he says to the married Winchesters who grab each other's hands while the deputy calls his son.
"Hey, dad," the young Lodge replies.
"Kid," Mark says. "I'm over at the Winchester's and their daughter is missing. Do you know something about this?"
"No, I don't, and I told her uncle that when he showed up at school looking for her."
"Alright, but how about you come over here and help us?"
"I really can't, dad, I have a lot of schoolwork," his son replies, starting to grow a bit nervous.
"You're doing schoolwork while your girlfriend is missing?" the hunter-turned-deputy asks with raised eyebrows, turning to the worried gang of people staring him down.
"Yeah, and I can't really, my bike is at the garage."
"How about the car? You do have the car still, right?"
There's a long sigh in the end of the line and a moment of silence before the young man answers. "She was scared and she was running away. I borrowed my car to her and she promised she'd be back in a couple of days."
Mark sighs and turns on the speaker, nodding to the Winchesters and his coworker, who all circle around him.
"Dammit, kid," he curses. "A very emotional girl has gone missing. Where was she going?"
"She said she was going to Detroit to see her mother. But she promised she wouldn't do anything to herself. She wouldn't break a promise to me," he says, and Dean shuts him up. "And how long have you known her? Leah has gone through a lot of rough things, and I was there for all of them. She has broken promises like that before. We just need to get to her before that happens."
Mark glares at Dean for yelling at his son, and shakes his head. "When did she leave?"
"At around ten this morning," Lucas replies. "I'm so sorry, Mr. Winchester, I just wanted to help her. I think she needed to go by herself to get some answers."
Dean sighs and buries his face in his hand. Cas pipes up in his stead. "Thank you for wanting to help our daughter," he says to Leah's boyfriend, thankful he told them the truth, and then observes as Dean picks up his car keys from the table and is about to leave.
"Dean, where are you going?" he asks and takes a couple of steps closer to his husband.
"I'm gonna go get that kid before she gets herself into any more trouble," Dean growls but stops in his tracks when Cas reminds him they have a grandson who needs to be buried as they'll probably be gone for days.
"Cas, this is our daughter! She's still alive, and she didn't even want those kids," Dean exclaims but regrets it the next second, his heart stinging, they all lost the kid. It was his grandchild. He calms down for a moment and sighs. "Then what do we do?"
"I can take him to the funeral home, and you guys go get her. If you don't come back in time, we'll find some way to hold it off," Jody says as Mark thanks his son for his explanation and ends the phone conversation.
"What about the girl?" Sam asks his brother. "Who's gonna take care of her?"
"She's with Bobby, she'll be fine. He's figuring something out. But we need to go, come on," he says and gestures for his husband to get in the car. Cas turns to the rest of the gang, thankful for all the help and everyone who cares for his and Dean's daughter enough to help them find her. "Thank you all," he says on the way out his door when he hears the Impala start up.
"Good luck," Jody calls as he leaves the house.
