Chapter Twenty-three~
"Are you sure I'm not over dressed?"
"What you are wearing is fine," Aleksandr growled. I don't blame him for getting irritated though. This had to be the tenth time I asked him this today.
I was so used to wearing my jeans and t-shirts that I had been shocked when Aleksandr ordered me to dress in a floor-length dress. It was a beautiful red so I didn't mind the dress. What really unsettled and excited me was when Aleksandr placed a crown on the top of my head. He had one of his own and it looked similar to mine but only slightly bigger and more masculine.
Currently we were walking through the halls. I of course had no idea where we were going and stuck close Aleksandr.
We are on our way to meet with the Council and every step I took I couldn't discern through my emotions. I couldn't understand anything I was feeling. They were all jumbled together and I hoped Aleksandr wasn't getting annoyed by it.
When we finally entered a room, I didn't know what to do but stare in awe. The ceiling along with the entire room was rounded. There were giant, step-like platforms that held overly extravagant thrones. There were four jewel encrusted thrones on the top step. The one below it held four thrones that were slightly less embellished.
While the thrones lined the rounded wall of the room, in the center was a large, long table. The chairs were facing the thrones and every single one of them were filled with Creatures.
As Aleksandr and I walked into the room, the ones sitting at the long table, which I could only assume was the Council, stood with their heads bowed.
I allowed Aleksandr to lead me to the thrones against the wall and I almost gasped audibly when I realized they were meant for us. I knew I was the Princess now and soon would be the Queen, but I guess it just didn't hit me until now. The thrones, the crowns; it didn't really mean anything to me until now.
As we sat, I noticed that we took the chairs on the right with Adara and Darius to our lefts. The chairs above us on the top platform were empty.
Eventually Eileen and Gabriel stalked in and when they did, the Council didn't stand or anything. They just ignored them as if they didn't really mean them any respect and that made me frown. They sat somewhere to the side and nodded their heads at us in acknowledgement.
Why don't they have a chair next to mine? I felt myself scowl.
When the doors burst open the next time, not only did the Council stand, I felt Aleksandr tugging me to my feet. I saw everyone in the room standing and bowing their heads, so I quickly followed suit.
While we were above the Council, we were below the Kings and Queens.
Only when they were settled in their places did I feel Aleksandr tugging me back down into my chair.
"The Council has requested this gathering," Ares spoke loudly and powerfully. "State your concerns."
"We believe that due to the recent many attacks that have occurred, we need to further prepare our rulers."
"We are aware," Desmond grumbled as if this was a waste of time and his breath.
"We fear that the young leaders are not yet ready to assume their position." The same man spoke up but seemed like he wasn't saying what he really wanted to.
