Alek's mom could tell that her son had a crush on his best friend. When the boy got home from school one day, she was lying on the couch. Alek saw her and waved slightly. She then said, "Ya know, I think you and August are pretty much a bit more than best friends, right? Maybe you could invite him over for the night?" Alek responded, "But, there's not enough space for someone to sleep on my floor?" Sighing, she sat up. "Look, I can tell how much you like him by the way you talk about him. I'm just trying to help you get lai-" "Mom!," Alek cut her off, "I know you're just trying to help, but please don't interfere with my relationships. Plus, we're both not ready for that step." Rena nodded, "I guess you're right, but still, you should invite him over. Dave is going to be here, so it could be a double date?" Alek placed his bag on the coffee table and plopped onto the soft chair next to the couch. "I thought you two broke up?" She shook her head, "No, I said we were taking a break. Plus, his daughter is growing up and needs a motherly figure in her life." Standing, Rena finished, "I already called August's mom and she said he'd be able to come over to get a bit of homework help from you." The boy stood up with his bag, as he walked away, he replied, "Why'd ya have to call her? I could have just texted him."
While he walked, he texted August, asking if he was coming over. As he waited for a response, he opened his laptop as he sat on the bed, leaning against the pillows lining the headboard. Fifteenish minutes later, August slammed the door open, causing Alek to snap the laptop shut. "What the flip, dude? I thought you were my mom." The short ginger cackled as he sat next to his partner, "Why? Were you watching porn or something?" Alek nervously looked at the closed computer as he remained silent. "Oh my god, you were. What kind?" Alek looked back at August as he answered, "Not gonna say." Shrugging, August grabbed the computer and opened it. Thinking for a moment, he started to type in a password, but got it wrong. So he tried it a few more times before finally getting it right. He gaped at what he saw on the screen, "Babe, I hope you're using incognito mode because this is some stuff I'd never imagine you being into." Alek leaned over and closed the tab, "Let's start your chemistry now...." Laughing, Auggie said, "From the what you were watching, I don't think we'll get that far." The blue eyed boy looked away with a light blush as he got up to close the door. When he sat back down, he leaned across the ginger and grabbed the dark blue backpack. As he was unzipping it, the short ginger said, "So, your mom said that we were going on a double date with her and her boyfriend." Alek nodded as he pulled out the thick book. "Yeah, she invited you over 'cause she thinks I need to get laid. But I told her we weren't ready for that yet." August pecked Alek on the cheek, "You're so responsible. It's kinda hot." Alek swallowed as he focused on finding the page that the assignment was on. He asked, "Hey, Aug? Can you get a pencil and two pieces of paper from my desk, please?"
August retrieved the paper and sat closer to Alek. He laid his head against the taller boy's shoulder as he took the papers. Alek used the pencil and one sheet of paper to write down the examples and definitions that were on the page while August watched. "You have really nice handwriting," said Aug. Alek smiled a bit, "Thanks. At least you're paying attention to something. Now, do these examples and ask if you don't understand something." August straightened up as he took the book, pencil, and paper from Alek. The tall boy went to the door, "I'm gonna tell my mom that we might be a bit longer than expected." August gave a thumbs up as he wrote.
The tall boy walked downstairs, and saw his mom and her boyfriend. He walked over to stand a few feet away from them to wait for them to finish talking. Dave noticed him first. He smiled and greeted, "How ya doin', Alek?" Alek softly replied, "I'm pretty good, I guess. How are you?" The tall balding man answered, "I was good, but now I'm better now that I'm with Rena." Rena smiled at that. Alek turned towards her, "Um, Auggie and I are taking a bit longer than expected, so we might be late. Do you want us to just meet you at the restaurant?" Rena shook her head, "Nah, we can wait for you guys. About how much longer will it take?" The boy thought then answered, "Probably about twenty-ish minutes." "That'll be fine. We're leaving in half an hour, so be ready." He nodded and went back up to August.
When Alek walked into the room, August was looking around the room and picking up pictures and books he found. He glanced over at the taller boy before continuing to look at the pictures he had found. Alek smiled a bit and walked over to hug him from behind. His hands were on Aug's stomach as he rested his chin on the ginger's head. "What ya lookin' at, boo?," asked Alek. "Pictures that were on your desk," holding one up, he asked, "Is this you and your mom?" Alek gently took the photo from him to get a closer look. "Nah, that's me and my ex-step sister. I haven't seen her since my mom and ex-step dad split. By the way, her name was Annalace, but we called her Anni. There's more pics of her if you wanna look sometime." August didn't answer, so Alek let go of him and stood by the edge of the bed. August looked at him with a smile creeping onto his face seconds before tackling Alek onto the soft bed. Alek laughed a bit as August stayed on top of him. August buried his face into Alek's chest as he said, "I'm tired....how long til we're leaving?" "Thirty-ish minutes," replied Alek as he rested his hands on Auggie's lower back. The two remained in silence as they both drifted off to sleep.
