jack's pov:

alex and i were sitting under our usual tree at lunch, waiting for our friends to get here. it was pretty much silent to be honest. it wasn't awkward though - it never is with alex and i. we enjoy each other's company, whether we're talking or being silent. recently, i had this realisation that i maybe like alex. like, like like. i know i'm acting like a child over this, but honestly? i really don't care. i've been lowkey flirting with him for the past week or so, but i don't think he's noticed. it's actually quite fun in some respects. it's just not going to be fun when he realises, and then tells me that he doesn't reciprocate those feelings. alex yawned then, and i saw my chance to maybe step this up a bit. just make it a bit more obvious, you know?

"yeah, being pretty must be tiring." i said. alex gave me a small, startled look. it was pretty cute, actually. but it didn't last long before he replied back, pretty much as smoothly as i had - possibly even smoother.

"then you must be exhausted." alex replied, tilting his head slightly. i blushed. pretty hard. i didn't mean to, but i really couldn't help it. alex laughed. "you weren't expecting that, were you?"

"to be completely honest, no." i replied, still a little red from alex's comment.

"i was waiting for you to say something that i could actually reply to without being flustered. i've got used to your flirting now."

"your face when i said you were pretty told me differently."

alex punched my arm at that.

"hey! that wasn't nice."

"teasing me isn't nice either!"

i raised my eyebrow, and gave alex a suggestive look. and i got another punch to the arm.

"not like that, you pervert!"

i laughed a little, and the conversation died out. we went back to sitting in silence, except this time, alex had put his arm around me, and i had my head on his shoulder. i spoke up again after a few minutes.

"so," i started, tilting my head a little. "wanna go on a date after school?"

"sure." alex turned to face me and smiled. he really was the most adorable boy i've met. i kissed his cheek lightly, which made him blush.

"don't do that when i'm not expecting it!" he whined, burrying his head in my shoulder. i chuckled.

"you don't mean that do you?" i said, jokingly.

"...no." alex replied, his head still on my shouder. this time, i wrapped my arm around him, and we sat like that until we were rudely interrupted by our friends.
