"I was just needing a break.. from a lot"
"yeah.. same" he said and looked up. His red champion hoodie looked cute under his Nike windbreaker.
"If u don't mind me asking.. break from what?" he said and turned to face me. I avoided eye contact again and looked at the waves.
"Just... school.. and all that, y'know?"
"Ahah, yeah i know.. what school do u go to anyways?"
"Well... um.. i used to go to **** **** but now i'm transferring to Bishop Power. What about you-"
"no way.." he said, cutting me off.
"I go to that school right now.. what grade are you in??" he asked with a grin on his face. He has dimples.
"I'm in grade 10 right now."
"Bruh.. that's crazy.. i'm in grade 10 right now too. It's like the universe is telling us.. that we should, like.. stick together. Be friends or sumn." he said and turned to me. I laugh and lay down on the sand. It's so quiet. Just the sound of the waves and cars driving about 50 metres from us.
"So?" he said again, laying down with me.
"So... sure" i say, trying to contain myself with happiness.
"I'm Liam. wbu?" he asks and sits up again. Loose pieces of sand fall off his windbreaker.
"Sav. W- what's your number?" i ask, cringing. I hope i'm not being weird..
"647-908-9181. Yours?" he asks, opening his contact app in his phone.I guess it wasn't a weird question. I sit up with him and lean in to look at his number again, inches away from his face. He smells like vanilla and cologne.. a sexy mix. I type in his number and lean back. He didn't show any reaction. Wait a minute.. was he supposed to..?! I need to stop getting ahead of myself. I rub my eyes and look at the time. 4:32 am. I look at the beach front. Most people already left except for the few other teenagers having a bonfire and some weird people who walk their dogs. I stand up.
"Well.. i should probably go home."
"Which apartment do u live in? Or house?" he asks, standing up with me. He's a few inches taller than me. I'm only 5'3 so i'm guessing he's 5'7.
"The brick one over there" i say, pointing to the apartment.
"I'll walk you. It's pretty late anyways"
"You mean early?" i say, smiling.
"I mean, sure. Depends, lol" he says and we turn to walk to my apartment.
"So how'd u sneak out of your apartment? I've been dying to know how people do that. I live in a house so it's wayyy easier for me." he says . I swallow..
i don't really like telling people i live alone, let alone to some guy i met at 3am on the beach, but...
"Uhh i actually live alone..for now. My parents aren't here" i say, scratching my neck.
"Damn.. you work?" he asks casually. I was expecting something bigger.
"Nah.. my aunt pays for rent and that's pretty much it" i say, crossing an intersection with him.
"That's cool as hell" he says, facing me. I keep facing forward.
"I guess. But it sucks sometimes, y'know?"
"Yeah, i get it." he says and we walk up to the front of the lobby doors.
"Well, i'll see you around"
"You mean on Thursday?" i laugh.
"Sure. just text me. I usually get to school late but we can walk together if you want. It'll only take 15 mins" he says, hands in his sweatpant pockets.
"Oh.. ok" i say. It's got pretty awkward for a second. Should i hug him...? Or is that too-
"Bye" he says, taking his phone out of his pocket.
"B-bye" i say waving. Then, he turns around and walks away.
