Right so...Awkward situations are awful. Let me just include how almost every situation with new people is awkward.
I think I'm better off on the side watching and observing rather than interacting myself. But I guess that's not always an option.
Already halfway down the stairs I can tell that there's about three people here. And when I step into view the conversation stops. I face the new people and notice not three but four unfamiliar faces.
"Oh Jeanae! Come meet our neighbors and my friends." Gram excitedly waved me over. I smiled politely and I could feel the tingle of the blush overwhelming my face.
"This is my bestfriend Melinda, and her three grandchildren. Theres Samantha here, then Felicity, and lastly, Michael." My grandmother gestured towards each of them.
"Hello Jeanae, your grandmother's been talking about you coming nonstop lately! Glad to finally meet you." Melinda said with a sweet smile while shaking my hand gently.
"W-well it's Nice to meet you too Melinda." I really was trying my hardest to speak clearly. "Ah, call me Mel dear. Melinda sounds too formal and old if I do say so myself." Gram laughed a little at that.
"Yea, you can call me Sam by the way. It's nice to meet ya Jeanae, would it be polite enough for me to call you Jae?." The tall girl to the right of Mel said. I smile shyly and nod. "Oh Felicity is fine when it comes to me Jeanae, Hows it going?" The much shorter girl next to Sam asked.
"Um... well it's going good actually. I'm pretty excited to be here." I said and I could feel myself calming down now that I've been introduced.
But there was still one more person left. When I glanced up at him he was already looking at me. So much for calming... I could feel my cheeks heat up again just from looking at him.
It took him a second before he said anything at all. "My friends call me Mickey." He finally stated with a straight face, making sure to look me dead in the eyes. At this point I just nodded and averted my gaze back to Gram.
"Alright. Now that everyone's acquainted, we can get to eating." Gram said and everyone dispersed into the kitchen and dining room. Everyone except me and Mickey.
I gave him one more look at the face only to notice him again starring at me already. His persona was intimidating and made me wanna crumble under his gaze. Why? I have no idea.
I made my way to the kitchen to see if Gram needed any help but it looked to be that Mel and Sam had it covered.
"Jeanae!" Felicity yelled and grabbed onto my arm. She pulled me into the dining room and sat me down at a random seat then sat next to me.
"So, your excited to be here huh?" She asked and I nodded with a smile. "Yeah, it's a new little adventure for me I guess."
"You're coming from a bit more north right, Maine was it? Or maybe it was one of the Dakotas..." she asked trying to remember. "Yea it was north Dakota. Pretty different from here but not in a bad way." I clarified for her. She seems like a really chill person so far.
"Huh. How old are ya Jeanae?" "Uh, I just turned 16 a couple months ago." She seemed happy about that instantly.
"That's Rad girl, so did I. Pretty cool were both newly 16. My sister, Sam, is 17 and so is Michael. They're twins if you haven't notice."
I can't really say I noticed at first but thinking on it their looks are strikingly similar. They're even both tall.
Speaking of the two I noticed that Mickey is also sitting at the table just looking out the window while Sam is filing in carrying some plates with Grams and Mel behind.
