Chapter 10

The Boy Without Presence, Carius

Under the starry night.

Wall made of stone, on top of it was rows of seats meant for the spectators.

On top of the seats there are 2 balcony on each side with 4 chairs each, unlike the one underneath, this seat was made of wood not stone, meant for the Royal Family.

1 more hour left until the Test, we decided to check out the arena,

"But... To think that it would be a colosseum..."

I said in a surprised tone as we stood silently on the entrance.

"Oi, what are you guys doing here?"

We turned around to the source of the voice.

"There's 60 minutes left until the Test, shouldn't you be resting at the Inn?"

The president of the studuent council, Eim.

With long, sky colored hair in half up half down style, swept bangs, and red eyes, she spoke to us in a demanding tone.

"Well, normally, we would be resting, but SOMEBODY insisted on checking the arena"

Me and Tero averted our eyes to Orfia, who is slowly facing away from us.

"Sigh, I guess it can't be helped, knowing the battlefield is also important, come inside, we're almost done with the preparation"

Eim gave us permission as she walk towards the colosseum.

We followed her, and saw the other members of the student council cleaning, and decorating the seats for the King's family with carpet, table, and... Is that a sleeping bag? They're also setting up the stand for the qualified adventurers.

"Wow, this place is massive!"

Tero said.

"This is amazing..."

At that moment I realized something.

"Aldo!"

I turned around to see Orfia. fortunately, Aldo seems like he isn't here.

"Ah, if you're looking for him I asked him to go get the headmaster, we need to inform him of something"

Eim's words piqued my interest.

"And that something is...?"

I query

"It's about the Royalties, we don't have the privilege to walk inside the castle"

Eim explained.

"I see, a very strict rule, make it seems like they don't trust any of us"

"That may be true"

After walking around and scrutinizing the arena, we went to the same bar to eat dinner before the test.

Unlike in the morning the bar was filled with people, some of them were students from the academy.

We sat down on the same table like last time, thankfully no one was sitting there.

I ordered fried rice mix with vegetables and lizard meat on the side. I've never had lizard meat before but Tero said that it taste really great.

Orfia ordered the same fried rice as before.

As for Tero... He ordered everything on the menu again.

The food arrived alot quicker than before.

We ate our food, not aware of the things happening behind the darkness of this city.

40 minutes left until The Test.

Sounds of people running around was heard throughout the street. It seems like they are chasing someone

There were 4 of them, and all of them are wearing a robe.

"Did you find him?"

The 4 of them gathered together and share info.

"No! What should we do?! If we don't find him, Master Darto would kill us all!" One of them seems to be panicking.

"Calm down you idiot! We'll definitely find that brat, my skill can negate his stealth so finding him won't be hard"

All of them continued searching like their lives are depending on it.

"Your skill counters mine, you say?"

A boy suddenly appeared out of nowhere, holding 3 bagful of gold and 6 more on his belt.

"Have you tested that theory yet? Because i can kill every single one of you in an instant if i wanted to"

The boy said in an assertive tone

"Hey! The kid's here!"

The boy disappeared as if there was no trace of him being there.

"Heh, it's no use, even if you hide you're not vulnerable to attacks right?"

The robed men reaches out his hand and purple smoke appeared out of his palm

"Your skill erases everything, your body, smell, and even the sounds you make, but if you're surrounded by lethal poison gas, i doubt your skill would help you!"

The other three wore a mask with poison resistance enhanced to them

"How does my poison gas smells like, you stupid brat?!"

"The stupid one here is you"

The boy appeared behind him, seemingly in an instant. The man suddenly turned around only to receive a good punch to the face, making him unconscious.

The other three quickly corners the boy and attacked him by slicing, stabbing, and striking him with no mercy, but they're only hitting nothing but air, with the boy disappearing yet again

"Oi, i though this guy isn't vulnerable to attacks!? What should we do?"

"He's not! He's just quick that's all"

"That's right,"

The boy appeared in front of the panicking one and strikes with a swift blow to the abdomen, and grabs his knife.

"You guys are so easy to read it makes it simple for me to dodge all of your attacks"

"Get him! Before he uses his skill again!"

One of them took a step back and combined ice magic and use wind magic to create a homing ice spikes towards the boy.

The other one uses his skill to duplicate the number of spikes from 4 to 10 and strikes the boy with his knife.

The one that was hit quickly retaliate and attacked the boy with a swift kick.

"It's futile"

The boy hid his presence for the last time, and all of the attacks missed simultaneously.

As if fighting a ghost the three men suddenly got slashed by the boy's knife without knowing where the attack is coming from.

"Hii!! I don't want to die!"

"Tch, you brat!"

The one that created the spikes uses his skill and punches the ground making it shattered to pieces.

"It's already over,"

The boy appeared besides the three of them holding his knife covered with blood, and walking away normally.

The three of them didn't move from their spot...

Suddenly all three of them spurts out blood from their body, from being slashed, and falling down unconscious, but still alive.

"D-damn.. you... Ca-... rius..."

Carius throws away the knife and  left the scene.
