Chapter 12

The Second Round

The adventurer test has reached its second round.

I and the other students are standing on the center of the Colosseum each on our separate podium whereas our opponents are on the other side.

I'll be fighting against Puer, and Teros will be fighting Ella, the person which Orfia said to be strong.

Being in the center of everyone's attention was bound to make me nervous. I can't even stand up properly without my legs shaking.

But even so, I must pass this test no matter what.

"It looks like all the students are ready and all fired up, on the first podium we have Chrono and Puer, the second have Teros and Ella, the third, Dal and Eyu, the fourth one have Tina and Era, and the fifth and final podium have Trey and Jule"

Aldo was the announcer of this test and after he announced this round's matchup he raised his hands with his index finger pointing upwards.

"Those are this round's matches, so without further ado, I shall begin the countdown"

Flames that creates the number "3" appeared from a magic circle atop of his finger and it began counting down.

"Once the flames hit zero, the round will start and all of the students are allowed to attack their opponent"

The flames turned into the number "2"

"Continue attacking your opponent until they are unable to fight, or until the members of the student council that are responsible for your match tells you to stop"

The flames turned into the number "1"

"And if you inflict fatal wounds on your opponents you will automatically be disqualified thus lowering your chances of passing the test. That is all"

The flames that started off with "3" and counted down past "1" and "2" now have reached its climax and turned into "0". Signaling the start of the round.

As soon as it reached zero the others instantly let out their powers. One of them turned their arms into tree roots and attacked their opponents, which retaliate and cast fire magic to burn the roots.

"Geez, this is so barbaric! Can't they set this up to be more peaceful?"

The woman on the opposite side of Teros began to speak with her arms on her waist with an annoyed expression.

"Well, it's not like they can help it. They can't afford to go easy on their opponent, considering the fact that this is a test and they have to pass it to become an adventurer."

The two on the left were having a conversation, normally, without any sign of hostility.

"You two are pretty lax about all this"

I queried the two abnormalities as they faced my way with "what do you mean?" written on their face.

"To stay calm on a battlefield is necessary to achieve victory"

Puer joined in on the "conversation". Seeing the state we're in, nobody would've guessed that we were supposed to fight each other.

"You're pretty wise for someone who was so quiet in class"

Puer and Ella are from the same class so they probably know each other very well.

"That's because there is nothing interesting happening that is worth talking about"

As Puer explained the reason behind his quietness, Ella smiled at his direction, with a curious expression.

"Then, does that mean you find this test interesting enough to talk about?"
