Chapter 19: Another Step To Success

As the day moves on, it was physical education time. Instead of going to the pool, the class is going to the multi purpose hall to do some sports. The idea of sports made Benjiro cringed as he despised them. "Well, if I want to win Akumu 's heart, I have to do this..." With determination, Benjiro walked towards the locker room to change.

After Benjiro finished changing, he ran towards the MPH. The boy's physical education uniform was a a white shirt with a blue strip on each sleeve as well as on the collar and blue shorts. The girl's one was the same white shirt but instead of blue shorts, they wore blue underwear. Once Benjiro reached the MPH, Akumu ran to him and said, "Benjiro -kun! We are playing Basketball!"

Hearing Akumu 's comment, it made Benjiro want to pass out. Out of all sports, he despised Basketball and Swimming. "No! I must not give up! I'll do this for Akumu !" Benjiro encourage himself silently.

"Oh cool! I can't wait!" Benjiro lied and the two went towards their physical education teacher, Sensei Hoshi Ryoma.

"Alright as y'all know, we are playing Basketball today! But I'll be different this time!" Sensei Hoshi announced.

"Eh it will be different? What does he mean?" Students starting murmuring to each other.

"So, instead of playing in teams, it will be a one versus one game! This is because I want to see how fit y'all are!" Sensei Hoshi announced once more.

"Oh I see! This is going to be hard..." Students started murmuring with worry to each other.

"Oh no... it's just going to be one person against one? That's impossible! There's no way I could do this! I can't even climb up the stairs without being tired! But if this was for Akumu , I could try and impress her! Benjiro thought to himself.

"Alright so first off, it will be Momota-san versus OuAku-kun!" Sensei Hoshi announced glaring at Benjiro .

"Haah, I knew it... I was always bad in physical education and Sensei Hoshi hated me because of that... but to be against Akio? That's horrible! He's like the fittest guy in our class! Whatever, let's do this..." Benjiro tried to motivate himself and walked towards the Basketball court.

Once Akio and Benjiro went to their respective places, Sensei Hoshi has an air horn in his hand. "Alright so you two know the rules! First to five wins win! On your mark, get set, go!" Sensei Ryoma pressed the air horn and the two began playing.

After a few minutes, Akio had four wins while Benjiro only had zero. "Haah, what do I do now? It's game over..." Benjiro sighed with desperation.

"Yes! You can do this Momota!" Sensei Hoshi cheered.

As they continued playing, Benjiro tried to snatch the ball away from Akio but failed. After awhile, Akio was ready to do his winning goal. "Yup, it's definitely over now..." Benjiro placed his hands at his sides as he gave up.

"You can do it Benjiro -Kun! Don't give up!" Akumu 's voice resounded in Benjiro 's head.

Fired up by Akumu 's encouragement, when Akio attempted to throw the ball into the hoop, Benjiro jumped up and intercepted it. "Wh-What?" Akio said with a shocked expression.

Benjiro was now bouncing the ball to Akio's hoop. Shocked about Benjiro 's action, Akio stood there not knowing what to do. Benjiro threw the ball into the hoop and got a goal. "Whoohoo! Good job Benjiro -kun!" Akumu cheered along with the class.

"I managed to get a point! I might be able to do this!" Fired up with determination, Benjiro continued to try and get goals.

After a minute, Akio was able to move again and tried to defend his hoop. To Akio's despair, Benjiro managed to make another goal. Then he made another and another one. Now they were tied four to four. "Alright, if I continue my pace, I could definitely beat him!" Benjiro muttered under his breath as he ran towards Akio's hoop with the ball.

"Oh no you don't!" Akio was much faster now and jumped to intercept the ball.

When he was back on the ground, all Akio could hear was cheering. He turned around to see the ball through the hoop. "No! I can't believe this has happened!" Akio cried.

Akumu walked to him patting his shoulder, "It's ok Akio-kun! You gave it your all! Maybe next time you could beat Benjiro -kun!"

Akumu turned to Benjiro 's direction and gave him a hug, "Good job Benjiro -kun! Keep up the good work!" Akumu smiled as Benjiro started blushing.

"Thanks Akumu -chan!" Benjiro thanked Akumu .

"Wow... OuAku-Kun you actually did it! I'm proud of you for the first time!" Sensei Hoshi praised Benjiro .

Akio walked towards Benjiro and stuck out his hand, "Good job Benjiro -kun! You really did great today! Next time, I won't let you win!"

"Hehe, good job too Akio-kun! It was a close match!" Benjiro held Akio's hand and shook it.

"I actually won! I'm so close to the finishing line of winning Akumu 's heart!" Benjiro pondered.

After a few matches of other students, the bell rang symboling the end of school. The class greeted Sensei Hoshi and walked out of the MPH to the locker room. "Hehe, good job again Benjiro -kun! I have a student councillor meeting again so I can't walk with you home... So I'll see you tomorrow!" Akumu waved at Benjiro and he waved back.
