CAN
I groaned and stretched my aching limbs, I kicked the blanket off my legs and felt the cool waves of my aircon make the small hairs I had on them stand up.
Hi, my name is Can I work in a stylish cocktail bar in Bangkok and after leaving culinary school I dreamed of opening up my own specialty restaurant and bar, sometimes when I'm bored and we are having a slow day I draw up my ideas on the napkins and then throw them away with the customers trash. I'm lucky as the owner of the bar is a friend and he pays me well enough to be able to move out of my Mum's place, but after working nights for two weeks solid, I cursed them all who were on holidays making us short staffed and me suffer the most.
P'No knew it was low season during the rains but he still insisted the Bar remained open and so on rainy monsoon day's I dragged myself out of the comfort of my home and travelled through the flooded street of outside town to the stylish rooftop of downtown.
Yesterday P'No told me he had arranged for a singer to come and sing some classic Frank Sinatra songs to try and get more customers. I shook my head, trust P'No to be cheesy and book a old man to sing old songs at his bar, I told him it would drive the only customers we had away but he only laughed and rubbed my head saying " You wait N'Can, the crowds will be around the block".
I shook my wet hair as I pushed the heavy door into the entrance for us staff, the chef was screaming complaining that rainy season meant his food deliveries were never on time, P'No was on the phone and I sneaked into the changing room and slide off my wet t-shirt and replaced it with a formal shirt and waistcoat, gelling my hair to the side I quickly wrapped the bow tie around my neck but as always I fumbled and cool delicate fingers placed over my own slender ones helped me.
"Can, you have been here three yrs and still don't know how to tie your bow, maybe you should find a wife to help you with it", giggled P'No.
"PPPPP'Noooo", I yelled loudly.
Grabbing his hand I rubbed my pouting cheeks on his arm saying.
"I don't need a wife when I have my lovely Phi to look after me".
P'No chuckled and rubbed my hair ( I'm convinced he think of me as his pet and I really don't mind hahaha),
"Your my favourite Nong, I payed for your food in college and now I pay your wages, nothing has changed much".
The restaurant was on the top floor of the building, outside monsoon season we had a rooftop that I liked working in as I had more room to show off my cocktail making skills. The bottom floor was the the bar, P'No liked old retro style, me and him had spent three years trawling through Bangkok finding old pieces of furniture and ornaments to decorate, now we had a stylish 40's 50's retro bar, a modern minimal restaurant ( I told P'No best not to have any distractions when eating nice food) and the rooftop we changed themes according to what we found in are shopping trips.
I was helping carry a cask of heavy wine up from the cellar when I lost my footing on the top step, the stupid cleaner had left his mop and bucket nearby and the tiled floor was sopping wet.
I felt the ground under me shake and I swayed heavily side to side, by instinct, I tried to lean on the door frame to regain balance but instead I felt two large strong hands grab the cask and pull me into even stronger arms, embarrassed I looked down at the floor, the muscular arms took the cask from me and laid it down on the floor like it was made of feathers. Whispering thank you I hurried away, I may be small but I'm quick and nimble, I heard the person call me out and try and grab me but I was too quick and escaped without looking back.
P'No was right the Bar was extremely packed tonight, I made cocktail after cocktail and the customers kept coming. Who ever the singer was they must have loyal fans as they all seemed to have made the trip in the rain to see.

Hello welcome to Alchemist, everyone, thank you for making the journey in this humid wet night, but I promise you it will be worth it, beside are delicious cocktails and food today we are serving helpings of the sultry sounds of the evergreen Frank Sinatra, so welcome on stage the man of the night and hopefully yours Tin Mesanat.
I was showing off to a pretty girl by spinning the cocktail glass when I heard a huge round of applause, I ignored the stage as the cute petite girl continued to stare in awe at my skills and I grinned in triumph.
"Thank you everyone for coming out in this gloomy weather, and I hope you can find your ray of sunshine tonight like I did, this one is dedicated to the cutie at the bar who fell into my arms earlier this evening, can you accidently fall onto my lips next time".
The audience laughed at his flirty comments and I just looked up at horror as the spinning glasses fell and smashed into a million pieces on the floor, I tried to grab a brush to sweep in the kitchen but dammit by colleague had got there before me. He looked amused and shoved me in the shoulder and pointed at the stage, the music started and I adjusted my eyes from the glare of the stage lights, looking closer I saw the most handsome chiseled face I had ever seen, this man was build well and his hands were twice the size of mine. He was tall and his soft brown hair was gelled up like from the 40's and he wore a fitted suit just like Frank Sinatra, his cool eyes scanned the crowd and then stopped on me, he smirked and raised the glass he had in his hand and winked at me. I blinked in indignation, did he just flirt with me again. I pouted and grabbed a cloth to clean the bar and dare I say it listen to him.

Strangers in the night
Exchanging glances
Wondering in the night
What were the chances
We'd be sharing love
Before the night was through?
Something in your eyes
Was so inviting
Something in your smile
Was so exciting
Something in my heart told me I must have youStrangers in the night, two lonely people
We were strangers in the night
Up to the moment when we said our first hello
Little did we know
Love was just a glance away, a warm embracing dance away
And ever since that night
We've been together
Lovers at first sight
In love forever
It turned out so right
For strangers in the nightLove was just a glance away, a warm embracing dance away
Ever since that night
We've been together
Lovers at first sight
In love forever
It turned out so right
