(Hey, guys!  What do you think about chapter one?  Leave a comment to let me know!  <3<3<3<3<3<3<3<3)

It had been about a year since the wall was destroyed.  I helped the cook and decided to join the military.  It was a hard journey for me.  This is what happened.

<<<Flashback of Doom>>>

I stood in line as a man walked around the group of new recruits and asked them who they were.

"Who the hell are you?!"  He walked up to a boy with blonde hair and shouted in his face.

"Jean Kirschein, from Trost District!"  Jean replied in a loud voice.

"Why are you here?!"  The man continued.

"To join the Military Police Regiment and live in the interior!"  Jean replied letting a small smile slip across his lips.  All eyes bolted to him after he said this.  He realized his mistake and the smile faded from his kind face.

"Oh. You want to live in the interior, do you?"  The man's voice softened a little bit and Jean loosened a little bit, beginning to feel more comfortable with his answer.

"Yes!"  Jean let a small smile of relief come to his face.

The man took a very fast step closer and shoved his fist into Jean's stomach.  Jean fell to the ground, wincing and coughing.

"Who said you could sit?!"  The man began after injuring the new recruit.  "If you can't handle this, you can forget about the Military Police!"  He stepped to the boy an Jean's right and began to yell at him.  "Who the hell are you?!  Why are you here?!"

"Marco Bodt of Jinae, on the south side of Wall Rose!"  Marco, a boy with black hair, freckles and a kind face smiled as he yelled back to the man.  "I want to join the Military Police Regiment and give life and limb to the king!"

"I see."  The man said, easing up on Marco.  "That's a fine goal, indeed.  Go ahead and strive for it.  But, just so you know..."  The man got right up in his face.  "The king doesn't want your lousy life or limbs."  He backed away and stepped behind Marco and stood in front of me.  "Who are you and why are you here?!"

"Elfie Wedekind, I am from inside Wall Maria,"  I began.  "I want to kill all of the titans that stand in my way so that I can avenge the people who were killed and protect the ones who survived!"  I felt tears begging for escape.  Luckily, no one, not even the man screaming in my face, noticed the slight glimmer in my eyes.

"And if you don't meet your goal?!"  He leaned close to me and I could smell beer on his breath.  "What then?!"

"If I don't meet my goal, I trust that someone else has the same or a similar goal, sir!"  I said, sure that he would accept my answer.  At that moment, I felt a fist in my ribcage and breath being stolen from my lungs.  I miraculously stayed standing.

"You cannot trust anyone in these troubled times!"  He screamed, thrusting his fist into my gut and moved on to the next person.  "You're next!  Who the hell are you?!"

"Conny Sringer!"  A boy with a shaved head yelled back to him as he saluted with his left hand.  "I'm from Ragako Village on the south side of Wall Rose!"

"You have it backwards, Conny Springer!"  The man lifted Conny up by the sides of his head and Conny held his salute.  "It was the first thing you were taught!  This salute expresses your resolve to give your heart to the people!  Is your heart on your right side?!"  He stopped talking as he noticed a girl eating a baked potato.  He dropped Conny and turned to her.  "Hey, you.  What do you think you're doing?"  After the girl simply looked around for a moment, the man got angry.  "I'm talking to you!  Who the hell are you?!"

"Sasha Braus from Dauper Village, on the south side of Wall Rose!"  She saluted with the potato still in her hand.

"Sasha Braus..."  The man glared down at her.  "What is that you're holding in your right hand?"

"A steamed potato, Sir!"  Sasha clutched the half-eaten potato tighter.  "I found one in the cookhouse that was ready to eat, so I couldn't help myself!"

"You stole it?"  The man looked down at her.  "Why?  Why did you decide to eat it now?"

"I felt it would be a waste to let it get cold,"  She began.  "So, I elected to eat it now."

"No, I don't understand."  He looked down at her, obviously a little confused.  "Why did you eat the potato?"

"Are you asking me why people eat potatoes, Sir?"  Sasha asked, bits of potato stuck on her face.  She broke off a peice of the small vegetable.  "Here's half for you."

"Half...?"  He gently took the piece of potato and held it gingerly in his hand.  (Author's Note:  Marco is watching this, not understanding why I am crying while writing this...  :'(  Sad...)

He made Sasha run and five hours after she began running, I looked out at her from the porch of where we all were sleeping, along with Armin, Eren, Marco, Conny and another girl who's name I didn't catch.

We watched as a wagon of people went back to where their hometowns were.  We went inside and sat down to eat dinner.

"Yes, I saw it."  Eren looked up at the flock of people surrounding him as he ate his food.  I walked inside and Marco followed.

"Are you alright, Elfie?"  He put his hand on my shoulder.  "You seem upset about something."

"What do you mean?  I'm fine."  I lied.

"It's just that you seem...  worried."  A look of sympathy overcame his face.  "Are you sure you're okay?"

"Well, as fine as I can be in my situation."  I frowned as tears welled up in my eyes.

"Elfie?"  Marco frowned, leading me to a table and sitting down next to me.  "Tell me what's the matter."

"When the wall broke, I was making a meal..."  I began.  "My boyfriend, Dieter came in and we talked for a moment...  Then-  then the wall broke."  The tears began to flow down my face.  "Dammit, Albert!"  I clenched my fists on the table.

"I-I'm so sorry."  Marco frowned, putting an arm around my shoulder and holding me close to comfort me.  "We've all experienced pain.  It's just that some people's pain is more noticeable than others."

"Sorry to be a bother."  I stood up, rubbing my eyes to expel the tears that escaped from them.  "I'll be on my way, now..."  I began to walk away.

"No, wait, Elfie!"  He stood up, reaching out to grab my wrist.  He blushed a little bit, realizing that he sounded a little bit desperate for company.

"Yes?"  I said, hesitating a moment.

"Nevermind."  He let my hand go and I nodded to him and went to my bunk.

I settled in and fell fast asleep.  Until late that night, that is.
