Toward the beginning of Geometry class, the principal, Mr. Davis, came in to introduce the new kid. I didn't catch his name, but he had black shaggy hair with dark brown eyes.
He was wearing a black shirt with a dull color design on the front that looked like a ton of cubes in a semicircle formation. He had a red flannel around his waist, black jeans, and black high tops on.
In the class everyone sits in pairs, but recently my partner moved to Oklahoma, so of course Mr. Tapling said, "How about you go sit by Tessa. Wave your hand Tessa so he knows who you are."
I start waving my hand while looking down at my desk. I was embarrassed because the whole class turned around to look at me. Their eyes followed the new kid back to the empty desk accompanying mine.
Once he sat down, I felt weird and not as comfortable because I forgot what it felt like having someone sitting to my right.
That whole class period, I was focused on him. I was going to say hi, but I didn't want to distract him and get us both in trouble for talking in class.
Mr. Tapling is a good teacher, but he is also really strict. He doesn't like repeating himself, so you have to pay attention and hopefully understand it, or you zone off and fail your homework assignment.
Once the bell rang, I gathered my stuff quickly and was gonna catch him on the way out, but from my awesome luck I got stopped by Mr. Tapling.
"I need you to welcome him," Mr. Tapling said with a voice that contained zero emotion.
"Huh? What are you talking about?" I replied.
"Who do you think? I am talking about your new partner," Mr. Tapling scolded.
"We are not partners, he is only sitting by me," I told him with a tone of annoyance.
"He is joining us in the middle of the school year. At his old school, his class might not have been learning the same things we are. He came in the middle of the fifth chapter. You are going to have to be his partner and help him out if he needs it. Alright?" he said, looking me in the eye.
"Okay," I sigh, "fine, but what is his name again?" I say, irritated.
"Alec, his name is Alec," he tells me while writing a pass for my next class, "okay, here you go. Just because I wrote you a pass doesn't mean you get to wander the halls."
"Okay, bye, thank you for the pass Mr. Tapling," I say while leaving his classroom.
Hmmm, Alec is a pretty name. I wonder if it is short for anything. I wonder if he is Scottish. That means he would have an accent. Does he have an accent? Shit, I didn't even say hi! I haven't heard him speak yet. What if he is in any of my other classes. Would he be in baking? No, my luck is terrible, he wouldn't be in two of my classes, especially in a row.
I hear the bell ring right when I am at my locker.
"Shit! I am late. Good thing I got a pass from Mr.Tapling," I say to myself.
Once I enter the baking room, I scan the room to see if Alec was here. Of course, with my luck, he was not anywhere to be seen in the classroom.
"Tessa, please take a seat," Ms. Taylor said.
I could tell she was irritated with me.
I quickly put my pass on her desk and went to my seat. We were baking cupcakes and I was assigned to make the frosting. My baking partner, Rose, was already making the actual cupcakes.
I obviously could not rant to her about Alec. I was so caught up in my thoughts that I made the frosting too liquidy. I decided to add more powdered sugar.
While I was pouring the powdered sugar in the mixing bowl, Chloe came by and blew the powdered sugar so it would end up on my face. She achieved.
Chloe chuckles and fakes cough, "oh no. I am so sorry, I didn't mean to do that," she said with a pouty expression.
"Ugh!" I let out loudly.
"Is everything okay over there?" Ms. Taylor says in a loud voice across the room.
"Yeah, everything is going perfect. Tessa just spilled some powder sugar on herself, that's all," Chloe says in a perfectly innocent voice.
"What the fuck do you want from me?" I yell at Chloe while she was walking away from the mishap she just caused.
"Tessa Roberts! You do not cuss in my classroom! Go to the front-," Ms. Taylor was yelling at me but got interrupted when the overhead speakers came on.
"Sorry for the interruption. Tessa Roberts, please report to the front office. Tessa Roberts, front office please."
