The fire is inches away. The door is still firmly locked. This the end. Simon and I are huddled in the doorway, the last place unengulfed by flames."I know this sounds crazy" I suddenly say, "But let's do the unexpected. Let's enter the flames."
"Are you INSANE?!" Simon yells
"We'll die!"
I reply with, "We'll die anyways if we just sit here and conform. Please come with me." I'm getting a bit desperate at this point. Why do I care if he dies? A lot of people don't make it through the test. "Well it's probably just because I've known him for a while" I reassure myself. "Yeah and I don't want him to suffer like his sister"
My mind set, I grab his hand and pull him into the flames. I was ready and expecting to burn to death in there, but reality is stranger. The flames beyond the edge are a cooler sensation, like being tickled. I can hardly breathe from all the smoke. Simon is choking. Suddenly the flames stop. The intercom clicks on and says: "You have passed the first test."
