Chapter 8 – “She’s With Me” Part 2
I couldn’t help but to notice how his mood seemed to change, he seemed as if he was in his own world. “Ryuzaki?”
“Hmm?” He looked up with a small frown. It broke my heart seeing him look so sad, something was bothering him and I was going to find out what… maybe then I can help him as much as he has helped me.
Before I could as what was wrong a girl came up to us to take our order, “Hello, my name is Sam and I’ll be your waitress for today.” Ryuzaki caught her eyes and she smiled from ear to ear. “May I start you two with something to drink?”
“Yes. I would like to have coffee please.” He looked up with her causing her to giggle… a really annoying preppy squeal actually.
“What about you?” She huffed, and shifted her weight towards me. I looked down not wanting to speak but was about to so that it wouldn’t be too awkward.
“She would like some coffee as well.” Ryuzaki answered for me knowing how I am with people. Sam grinned only focusing on him.
“I’ll be back with your drinks in just a moment.” She shoved her notepad in her frilly pink apron and skipped off.
At least she was friendly to him, I thought as I glanced at the boy in front of me. “Thank you Ryuzaki.” I mumbled, snapping him out of his depressing state.
He smiled and nodded…I could have sworn I saw him blush. Maybe he’s not feeling too well? He has been acting a bit strange. “Are you ill?” I tilted my head with concern, “You look flushed.”
He looked at me confused and then laughed. “You nearly quoted me again.” He explained when he saw me not understanding why he found it humorous. My face turned red remembering, but I smiled at him, he seemed a lot more relaxed.
After a little bit of small talk the waitress came with two coffee mugs. After placing them down on our table she placed her brown eyes on Ryuzaki, “Would you like to order or would you like some more time.”
Ryuzaki had his gaze on me, “Can we both have a slice of strawberry cake?” He asked politely as he made eye contact with her waiting for a reply.
“Certainly, would that be all?” We both nod. “I’ll be right back with your order.” Sam put away her pen and notepad and then leaves to get our order ready.
After some time has passed we got our cake and started eating. Ryuzaki was so adorable when he ate his sweets, he had a little bit of icing on his face and I laughed. “You have something on your face.” I took my thumb getting it for him, it was only a little bit on the side of him mouth.
“Thank you.” He mumbled as I wiped it on a napkin. I took a small bit of my cake enjoying the sweetness of the sliced strawberry.
“Lily…” Ryuzaki sounded nervous… this was really unlike him.
I smiled at him as I set down my fork. He seemed as if he didn’t want to look at me, it was like if he did he soul would be stolen. “Yes?” I asked curious of what he was going to say. He rarely ever acted like this, but whenever he did it makes my stomach fill with butterflies.
His beautiful dark eyes finally meet mine, locking with each other. He seemed to have a hard time trying to speak and it made me anxious. He slouched down more into the booth and stared, the silence still has not been broken. Finally he spoke, “Who am I to you?” He sounded so unsure.
My face looked like a tomato, I couldn’t stop blushing. I looked down breaking the stare and fumbled with my thumbs. “You’re…” I couldn’t get it out… I wasn’t sure how to reply. Would he be upset if he knew? I decided to lie…well water down the truth.
“You’re my only friend…” I glanced up to see his face as I spoke, “You’ve been there for me and I would do anything for you.” My whisper was loud enough for him to hear, but he seemed as if he didn’t get it.
“Oh.” Was all he said, and he went back to eating his cake.
The rest of the afternoon was spent in awkward silence. I would catch him staring off at some points but he acted as if he was fine. I really hope I didn’t say the wrong thing… I really hope he’s okay.
After we ate and he paid the bill we called up Watari to pick us up. We sat on a bench looking at the clouds pass by. “Isn’t it beautiful?” I whispered, and Ryuzaki nodded.
He seemed so depressed; I didn’t know what to do… so I hugged him. I didn’t think, I just did it, just like how he hugged me when I was down. Maybe I am not a genius like him, or as pretty as that girl Sam, but at least I can be a genuine friend.
Ryuzaki slowly wrapped his arms around me tight. I nuzzled my face into the curve of his neck and took in this moment. His hair tickled me the more I moved so I just stayed still. One of his hands reached up to my head and began to brush it softly. I could have fallen asleep in his arms, it felt so perfect.
I heard him whisper something, but it was to quiet for me to hear so I lifted my head to look straight at him. “What was that?” I mumbled. He smiled at me and then kissed my cheek.
I didn’t blink, speak, or move. I was too shocked. My face was the color of a rose, and he seemed to find this amusing. I think he knows now… I think he’s finally got it. He knows I have a crush.
“Just friends?” He cocked his head and laughed.
