they tell me
the world is my oyster
and expect me to act
quickly,
quickly slurping up the meat
in my youth.
while it is true
that the world is my oyster
who is to say
i must eat it all at once?
who is to say
i cannot savor the flavor
and take my time eating the meat?
the world is my oyster
and i will save it
until the time is right.
then i will eat the meat
and dance
laughing at the possibilities
i have been granted.
