moonshine? no, you're too young

the moon shines

you type furiously

trying to forget

forget what exactly?

you're not sure.

make up scenes

other-worldly in nature

you have deadlines

people to respond to

you want to curl up

watch netflix

maybe listen to music

and cry

but no tears fall.

you reminisce

wish you were on vacation

visit a canyon

see the southwest desert

no trees exist there.

you want to learn

korean, spanish,

history, baking,

literature,

how to tend for a cat,

lift weights,

get buff, get swole,

crush a melon betwixt

your mighty thighs

so many fleeting thoughts

where do they come from

where do they go

where do they come from

cotton eye joe?

it's too hot to light candles

you want a plant

a little succulent friend

a mighty frond pal.

the future worries you

lights go off and on

bats swirl round

go visit the mountains

they cool at night

unlike the bayou

time isn't real

until it is.

think of space

think of space stories

think of gays

think of gay stories

you don't celebrate

a month made for you

why not?

please tone your thoughts down

they're too big

too loud, never-ending

you don't have to discover

the meaning of life

before you die

just live happily

whatever manifestation

you need to accomplish that

just do it.

why do you write

in second person narrative?

are you avoiding

confronting yourself

your own thoughts,

beliefs, and fears?

please calm down

you're okay for now

~~~
for context, i wrote this back in early june (2020). quarantine was still hitting very hard.
