Next day in the morning Kayn decided to open the letter. It had a weird symbol on it, it was like a circle made of blades in a strange shape. Nevertheless, he opened it.
"I've heard a lot about you, young one. I am what you may consider an enemy in the past, but I've changed my ways. I only wanna do what is truly right for this nation and I need your help.
Meet me near the cave where you had your first training on the next full moon if you wish to find out more."
"How does this person even know where I've had my first training?" Kayn asked himself.
"I am still against it if you wish to know my opinion," said Rhaast.
"What's the worst that can happen?"
"You getting killed? And I'm gonna be left alone in the dirt for another century."
"Your worries are appreciated."
Rhaast started his usually growling when something's not right. This time Kayn didn't tell him to shut up as he was aware of the risk he was taking. Rhaast's worries weren't for no reason, but he had to press on. He had to find out who is this mysterious person.
"We shall prepare for this meeting, that means supplies and training just in case we'll have to fight," said Kayn.
"We? So now you need my help to do something I'm against?"
"Rhaast, as much as I would love to not need you, I do if I want to have a higher chance of survival. Only if a fight was really about to happen." Kayn paused and kept looking in-depth at his possessed scythe. "I need you, Rhaast. And you need me as well, so let's just cooperate and we'll make it out alive."
Nothing. Rhaast didn't say a word, but Kayn would take his silence as a yes.
His training began later on that day, he didn't have any time to waste. His moves were as swift as always, but he was lacking strength. The strength that usually comes from Rhaast's power. It was obvious that Rhaast was still against it, and for a being that's thousands of years old, he was acting like a child in Kayn's eyes. It wouldn't matter, Kayn just had to work on his strength more so he could regain his balance of speed and power.
Days passed and Rhaast still wouldn't say a word. Their connection was slowly getting weaker and weaker. Kayn wasn't feeling Rhaast's emotions anymore. It was like he was himself again, alone again.
"Could you stop acting like a child and actually speak to me?" asked Kayn almost screaming. His colleagues knew about Rhaast and Kayn's state, but they were still surprised when he said that sentence out of nowhere in the middle of the training.
"Do you need a break?" Master Zed appeared in the place where a shadow used to be.
"I...I'm fine. I'll fix things with Rhaast one way or another."
"I hope you will," and he was gone in an instant.
Of course, Zed didn't know about Kayn's future meeting with a stranger, because if he did he wouldn't let him go, just like Rhaast. But he had to go, there was this strange feeling in his chest that he needed to do this, that he has to meet that person, and he will.
The full moon was shining brightly in the night sky as Kayn was approaching his destination slowly but surely. He had to take safety measures: checking for traps, wild animals, potential enemies that may ambush him. Few hours pass and everything seemed safe, but he wouldn't let his guard down. Rhaast was silent as usual, but Kayn wasn't insecure about his skill anymore. He thought himself "I don't need Rhaast," but deep down he knew he did.
As he was getting close to the cave he sensed something, or rather someone getting close.
Scythe touched sickle making a sound so loud it woke the whole forest up.
"Nice reflexes, big boy! You won't disappoint me." said the figure that attacked him.
Growling...it started again. It was so loud Kayn thought he's going deaf. He fell to his knees and the strange figure approached.
"Are you all right, sweetie?" and just as these words were spoken, Kayn lifted his head high. His red eye could be seen glowing as bright as the moon.
"So it's true, you do have a darkin within you. I'm gonna introduce myself and maybe that way your friend will calm down and I won't get killed in cold blood."
The growling was getting quieter and now Kayn could properly hear what the figure was saying, it seems like Rhaast was getting curious as well.
"My name is Akali. I used to be a member of The Kinkou Order, that which your master attacked and converted into The Order of Shadows. Do not worry, I am a rogue assassin now, I don't belong to Kinkou anymore."
"But didn't the order get rebuilt? And a treaty was signed to keep the two orders at peace?" asked Kayn.
"Yes, however, the rebuilt Kinkou isn't what I was hoping it will be. Their way of thinking is very different from mine, so I left."
"What is your goal, exactly? And why do you need me?"
"My goal is to change this nation. I wish to eliminate all the corrupted leaders and bring equal rights and wealth to all its people. I need your help here. I can go and kill every leader by myself, but that wouldn't change anything, another one would take their place. I need your help to find good leaders that we can trust. I know this nation didn't do you well. You got recruited when you were only about ten years old and you were forced to fight on the battlefield. If we can accomplish my goal, nobody will have to go through that ever again, do you understand?"
"I...I do understand. I don't think I am the right person you should ask for help though. I am unfit to communicate with strangers."
"You're doing pretty well for someone who met me ten minutes ago."
"I just don't think it's a good idea. I don't consider myself very talkative."
"Well, you'll have to become then. Trust me, if you don't get out of your shell you will never see the true way of this world and its people."
"All right. I shall try, but I don't promise to succeed."
"Good, I'll be hearing from you. I promise to find an easier way to communicate. Stay safe and take care of your red friend over there."
"I will. Try not to get yourself killed before then."
"I'll do my best, big boy," said Akali laughing.
And she was gone. She didn't disappear as Zed does, but she was quite fast. Kayn was surprised by her skill overall.
"I don't trust her, but she's pretty interesting," said Rhaast out of nowhere.
"Oh so now you talk?"
