Okay, so I'm going to take the advice I was given, except I've decided to break it up into three parts instead. The chapters will be a little shorter. Hope you enjoy!

Chapter 11 - A Friend, Saw It In A Movie

I must have dozed off at some point because when I heard the front door open, looking at the clock, it was 2:30 am. I resisted the urge to open the door and demand where he’s been like his mother would. I looked at the door as I heard his footfalls on the floor, passing my room to his. It didn’t sound right; there was a slight pause before the heavier footfall, like he was limping. What happened today, well yesterday? Something feels wrong, I don’t know what it is, but it isn’t right. Or am I being paranoid? Am I searching for something that isn’t there? I turned over to go back to sleep, knowing he was in his room, alive, but I couldn’t sleep. I tossed and turned all night. Eventually I must have fallen asleep because I woke up to Chris banging on my door.

“Scarlett! You’re going to make us late! Get up!” I grabbed the pillow my head was on while I turned to my other side. I put the pillow on top of my head, stifling his banging, yelling. I heard the door open; I knew what was coming next. I hugged the pillow tighter to my head as the mattress was lifted up, rolling me to the floor. My body hit the floor with a thud; the pillow took the brunt of the impact for my head.  I curled up on the floor too tired to care. I was about to fall asleep on the floor when a pillow hit my back.

“Scarlett, get up!” He hit me with every word. I was so tired, I couldn’t get up. I swung my leg out causing him to fall on his ass. I heard the thud and felt the vibration on the floor before hearing a choice few words.

“Fucking hell, Scarlett, where did you learn that?” I saw it in some movie.

“Umm, Miss Congeniality, I think. I didn’t think it’d actually work though.”  I turned over to see if he was alright, but as I moved my body tensed in pain. I hurt all over, especially the back of my neck.

“Are you okay?” He was sitting up with one knee bent and the other laying out on the floor. His arm was on top of the bent knee. He was wearing black pants, black button up shirt, and a dark shiny red tie. My mouth watered.

“Yeah, I just tossed and turned all night, couldn’t sleep.” I got up off of the floor, heading to the bathroom. I noticed the little nick on his eyebrow, the swollen bottom lip, the tip of a bruise on his neck, where the shirt hid the rest of it, and his knuckles were roughed up. What the hell happened yesterday?

I opened my locker to see the same crap as always fall out of it, but there was something sticking out of one of my books. Grabbing the book, I opened it, pulling out what looked like a business card.

People are never what they seem.

Okay? That isn’t the weirdest thing that’s ever happened to me. When did I get so sarcastic? I ripped up the business card a couple of times before tossing it into the trash can a couple feet away from me.

“Hey Scar, did you get home okay, no funny business right?”

“Its Lane, I trust him with my virtue more than I trust you.” I turned to smile at Tanton, but then the smile slipped off my face when I saw his. He had a black eye, a bruise on his jaw, a split lip, a cut on his cheek and stitches in his hairline.

          “What the hell happened?”

“Accidentally walked into the bad part of town. You know, damsels in distress, me being the hero, I had to fight off the evil men. Nothing a hug from you won’t fix.” I punched him in the stomach lightly, but he winced in pain.

“I’m so sorry, I didn’t know!” I gave him a hug. I felt him kiss the top of my head.

“It’s fine; it doesn’t hurt all that bad.” He wrapped his arm around my shoulders as we walked to my first hour. He gave me a kiss on the forehead before leaving for his class; Chris was walking in my direction when I saw him give Jake a glance; I wouldn’t have thought anything of it if Jake didn’t give him the same look. I walked in the door before Chris looked in my direction. I sat in my seat just as Chris shut the door.  He got on with the lesson, telling us about the lab we would be doing tomorrow. Something about predicting the landing spot of a projectile launched from an elevated platform. I spaced out after that. Halfway through the hour I had a huge headache. My head was pounding; it felt like I had an elf inside my brain banging a hammer against my temple with every pump of my blood. I stared out of the window, daydreaming. I had this feeling of sinking into myself, losing all awareness to the world around me.

I was standing in the corner of a light gray colored room. On the opposite side of the room from where I was standing, there was a mirror or glass pane, taking up the wall. There was a small table with two chairs on opposite sides. It looked like an interrogation room from a movie. I looked in the mirror’s reflection. My hair was ratty, my face had dirt and mud on it, and my clothes also have mud on them with rips and tears. I heard the door open, my head swinging towards the door in a panic.

“Have a seat.” He said it in a monotone, whoever the hell he is. I stood there, not doing anything, staring. He sat down in one of the chairs. He motioned with his hand for me to sit down. I moved to the only other chair, sitting down.

“Why were you there tonight, Scarlett?” I didn’t say anything, just staring at him, unwilling to give him anything.

“What were you trying to dig up, Scarlett?” The silence was deafening. The questions kept coming with silence for all of my answers. Different people kept coming in to ask me all the same questions, only phrased differently. The three after the man gave up, leaving me to myself. I got up out of the chair, moving around the room. I was slowly pacing back and forth, trying to give myself something to do. I backed up against the wall, sliding down to sit of the floor with my head on my knees. I heard the door open for the fifth time. The person didn’t say anything as they sat in the chair, waiting. I took a deep breath before looking up. My heart and breathing stopped.

“What were you doing, Scar?” I started shaking, violently. I blinked. Tanton had his hands gripping my shoulders, shaking me.

“Scar, snap out of it!” I look at Jake; I see that Chris is standing right beside him. I’m still sitting in my desk, everyone is gone.

“What happened?” They looked confused, turning to look at each other before looking back at me.
